Why do the lazy succeed and the hard workers go nowhere?

In a similar vein, why do the good die young?

not all lazy people succeed, but the ones that do happen to know how to kiss the right ass that wants to be kissed, or they know how to manipulate situations and people to get what they want from them. in other words, they are much more efficient at their unscrupulousness. most hard workers don't kiss ass, and are more concerned about others, or about doing things the "right way" which often goes unnoticed by their superiors. nice guys finish last because they aren't concerned with being first. and the ones who are concerned with being first usually know how to work hard to be first, and to be recognized for working hard and doing the "right thing".

everybody dies, old and young, good and bad. we just pay more attention to the good when they die, for good reason.

You are a man and like any man you deserve everything that is a man's lot--joy, pain, sadness and struggle. The nature of one's acts is unimportant as long as one acts as a warrior. If you really feel that your spirit is distorted you should simply fix it--purge it, make it perfect--because there is no other task in our entire lives which is more worthwhile. Not to fix the spirit is to seek death, and that is the same as to seek nothing, since death is going to overtake us regardless of anything.

To seek the perfection of the warrior's spirit is the only task worthy of our manhood. don Juan
