Tonight's going to be kielbasa again, but I am unsure what with. I'm definitely not in the mood for Kraft blue box and peas again...

Maybe sauerkraut with brown sugar and raisins?
hmm...

Osso Bucco - that name alone gave me a gustative orgasm. The perfect example of putting simple but yet high quality products together and let time work its magic. Osso bucco is not just a meal, it's some kind of art.

Tonight is going to be Johnsonville bratwurst on the Showtime, then simmered in Warsteiner and butter. Served on crisped up kaiser rolls with Guldens spicy brown, kosher dill length-wise slices, and vidalia onion. Found some nice corn-in-the-husk, so that will be oven baked in the husk and then shucked and slathered with butter and various seasonings.

Yumm...

Tonight the kosher dining hall inside UF's Hillel is doing an all-you-can-eat Asian buffet, including sushi rolls. And the sushi does contain raw fish (yay!). It's not the best sushi in town, but for $8 I'll take it.

The other Asian items are eh. But Beorn enjoys them. So, I'll fill up on sushi and Beorn will enjoy his meal as well.
It's all good.

Hyperception will probably come home, eat something quick, and go straight to sleep. The post office has been working him long and hard lately (B"H)...

Ooooh, sounds good, Infelice!

I made some Moroccan-ish couscous the other night, and had some of the leftovers tonight. Here's what I did:

Plop into a pot:
1 c. water
8-10 dried apricots, chopped
3 T minced onion
1/2 t. ginger
1/2 t. cinnamon
Salt & pepper to taste

Bring it to a boil and remove from heat.
Then stir in:
1 c. whole wheat couscous (if I mention Trader Joe's again, Menolly might kill me -- but they *do* sell a tasty whole-wheat couscous...)
1 T. honey
1/4 c. slivered almonds

And let it sit for 5 min. Makes, oh, I dunno, 4 or 5 servings.

Last night we went to Olive Garden and I got the braised short ribs with (supposedly) mushroom risotto, steamed green beans and shredded raw carrots, which Jenn let me have a taste of her order in Denver. As I remembered, the short ribs were luscious, and I'm one who generally does not like long cooked meat. My only complaint last night was the "risotto." It was really simply steamed rice with sliced portabello meshrooms. And it was tasty, so I didn't complain.

...but it definitely was not risotto, and I was looking forward to risotto. Ah well...

Tonight is Thanksgiving dinner light. I defrosted a 15 lb. turkey I got on sale after the holidays, brined it, and will roast it today. I'm not going to bother with the crockpot stuffing; Beorn doesn't like it at all and Paul is not a huge fan, so eating it once a year on Thanksgiving is enough for him. I'll make steamed broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes, home made gravy from the drippings, and call it done! Then eat off the planned overs for the next few days.

Excellent...

Oh...my...g-ds...

A true Jewish-style deli has finally opened here in Gator Town. I no longer have to go home to get hand sliced lox or a whole whitefish chub.

Yes, there are better delis back home in south Florida. But I never thought one even this good would ever come here to Gator Town. They are even having a couple of seder sittings (the food is kosher-style, not certified kosher l'pesach, but for the level I keep, good enough) on the first and second nights of Passover.

...amazing....

TooJays Deli

Favourite restaurant for several reasons - food is fantastic (it'd be called 'fusion' I suppose tho I don't like that term) and 'little extras' eg when I asked where they get their amazing capers, they give me a pot of them, one time gf's tummy was a bit upset, they made her a special rice+green tea that helped, sometimes a nice brandy will arrive unasked for (and uncharged) after meal. Things like that make loyal customers!

Sounds nice!
...but that wasn't what I meant to ask.
I meant...

any special reasons why you are going to your favorite restaurant tonight? ;)

Mother-in-law's birthday, so parents-in-law are coming up for dinner.

We're thinking of BBQing some chicken thighs (with maybe soy, mustard & honey marinade) and having Risotto to go with it - probably fairly simple: onion, garlic, chicken stock, roasted pumpkin.

Hoping it turns out ok! :)

We added some pine nuts to the Risotto which were nice. It (the Risotto) was a bit salty (maybe too much chicken stock - used the "Real" Stock from the supermarket...), but everything else went well. :)

No probs! (he says, assuming Menolly won't be in Oz any time soon, and plenty of time to brush up on skills if the occasion arises.... :D )
