Ahh, Memorial day weekend. Grilling and beer. And grilling. And beer..... Looks like it'll be a good weekend weather-wise - we're finally getting up to 70 degrees.

Plus this weekend is our 7th wedding anniversary. So the wife and I are treating each other to a "couples" massage tomorrow. That'll be nice, too....

No wonder why the brats are on sale.

Oh, and I forgot to mention our other exciting planned activity this weekend. Potty training boot camp. All three of us are on board with this, (our son claims he is....) so this is the weekend to get it done. Fun times.

I really am ready to move out of Florida, but the one thing I would miss is the year round grilling. Thankfully, I do my brats in the basket on my Showtime Rotisserie, so as long as there is electricity, I can do them anywhere at anytime.

Didn't work for us, but Beorn had reasons we didn't know about until years later. He did learn in time for pre-K4. But, it felt like it was touch and go for a long time...

(damn it, Jenn...even talking about potty training is now making me think of the gym thread...)

Yeah, that's a good idea, but on a Rotisserie seems.... wrong.... somehow. I'm sure the brats end up great though (and given your enthusiasm for cooking, probably "great" doesn't do them justice.)

I still can't get used to the idea that you guys get Leine's in Florida....

Yup, me too. I'm tempted to teach my son some of those phrases this weekend..... That would get me in trouble for sure, though....

As I said, I use the basket. There is no way in hell I would stick a rod through a brat to cook it.

The only thing truly missing is the smoke flavor. But, I tend to miss that even on a gas grill, so it isn't that big a difference. I've debated adding a drop of Liquid Smoke to the simmering beer and butter, but just as using a rotisserie seems wrong to you, adding that drop of flavoring seems wrong to me...

Wheatweiss? Hmm, are you thinking of Honey Weiss, maybe? That's a good, light beer. Good for drinking, and cooking. The Summer Shandy was new for me last year. Not one of my favorties. As near as I could tell, it's a combination of beer and lemonade. And it seemed heavy on the lemonade to me. My favorite of the Leine's stuff is their red, though. Good flavor in that one.

Probably the Honey Weiss, then.

I haven't seen one labled as "red," although I've seen a Berry something or other. Is that the one you mean?

Sounds like I'll pass on the Summer Shandy.

Nope, the Red is a lager, sorta red-tinged from the way the barley is prepared (I think).

Berry Weiss is pretty good. It's a weiss beer with raspberry and boysenberry. It's almost too sweet to be called beer, IMO, but it is pretty tasty.

I haven't seen the red yet then.
Too bad. That sounds just up Hyperception's alley.
I'll keep watching for it.

I watched Iron Man last night, worked out at the gym today, and seeing a friend tomorrow for coffee.

I'm driving up to the Michigan U.P. later this morning with friends. I just got done buying my Michigan fishing license. I'll be up there until Tuesday. I'm not sure if there's internet up there, but I think there may be time to work on Pantheon background stories.

BTW, I'm not going to drink Leines. I don't think there's one of their brews that I like.

It's still new to us, and we're researching.
Hyperception keeps trying it for the nostalgia I think, as his Dad is from Sheboygan and his Mom from Milwaukee proper.
Me...I don't drink beer. I'm still searching for the best brat simmering brew. So far, I still like Warsteiner the best for that, with St. Pauli Girl a close second. I wish I could find a summerfest brew by Warsteiner, but I don't know if such even exists...

i spent the first day of my summer vacation wowng! heh. when i turned the game over to gerald i said, "gee, it'd be a great afternoon to watch "To Kill a Mockingbird" and withn sixty seconds he'd pulled it up on the innernetz and i've just finished watching it.

Spent yesterday finishing painting the banister and stair risers in preparation for new carpets on Wednesday.

Today was spent assembling the most fiendish of childrens toys, a trampoline. 2.3m wide, and a job from hell - just as well the kids enjoyed it when I eventually finished after 2.5 hours of torture.

I'm really hoping tomorrow's sunny so we can go watch the nutters at the Cheese Rolling (about 5 miles from here)
