Syl,

Are you gonna go see Nine Inch Nails when they go on tour? They were giving away two tickets to see them in Boston on the radio last night.

Yeah, I'd really like to see NIN. Tool will probably be touring this year, too. Good year for concerts.

Lynyrd Skynyrd : saw them at the Houston rodeo. great show, though short (all rodeo concerts are, so that's ok) hilights were Tuesday's Gone, Sweet Home Alabama and of course, Free Bird. they rocked hard, it was incredible. Free Bird is among the hilights of all my concert goings. wow!

There was a special surprise at the Lynyrd Skynyrd show... Molly Hatchet was there too! (At least the remaining members with a few new ones.)

Kickass concert - plus the rides also!
(Love those roller coasters)

Saw Los Lonely Boys and Calexicio last night--serious jams: Henry Garza can really get down: Stevie Ray and Carlos can sit on their respective couches and watch this kid! Whew! They're just about to release their second CD (first one only won a Grammy and went double platinum) and go on tour with Santana---catch it!!! 8)

Pretty damm good-interesting mix incorporating new cultures and styles that are growing in East L.A: East Indian, Cuban, Brazilian...It's basically a "Latino" rock band, but they have an amazing horn and precussion ensemble. The sax player is awesome and he even plays some wild arabic sounding flute. The lead singer also plays trumpet. They've even got a black rapper so they're extremely culturally diverse and blend 4 to 5 different genres together--jazz, latino, rap, rock and various other elements. Hey, I've never even seen a rapper before and can't stand rap-but I personally thanked this guy when I walked past him in the beer line, after their show.

They've got an incredible amout of energy, they bounce around alot-tons of fun to watch (if you're not dancing, as I should have been  )

Glad you liked them. I have a few of their CDs (recommended Feast of Wire to you a few times), but I don't think they've ever made it over my way.

Man. Have fun. Clutch puts on a great show. Don't expect them to play an encore, though.

That's ok, most of the bands I see live don't play encores. The wench ( ;) ) is going with me - it's nice to be dating a girl who likes good music 8)

I was pissed today at my cell phone.
Reason? The 10th caller on the radio wins a pair of tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd & Allman Brothers.
I pull into a parking lot on my way home from work, start dialing like a madman, got a busy signal,
hung up and dialed again and this time the other end starts ringing.
The DJ answers with, "Hi! Your the 10th..."
And that's when I lost the signal on my phone.
(In the words of Charlie Brown: ARRRRGGG!!!!!!!)

The Clutch gig was...interesting. Started with a bland band, then an all-girl band rubbishly named the Suffrajets who actually turned out to be reasonably decent. Top surprise of the night goes to Five Horse Johnson - another rubbish name, but a good quality, more accessible Clutch. With a harmonica.

Clutch themselves were reasonably good, but also a little disappointing. The phrase that comes to mind is "self-indulgent". Five minute drum solos do not make good live music. Clutch are more complex than a straight-up stoner rock band, but all the instrumental breaks and whatnot were extended in the live show, leading to long periods of one note being played over and over while Fallon went for a sit down, and the aforementioned interminable drum solos. If even the die hard fans have stopped dancing and people are shouting "get on with it", it's probably fair to say you've dawdled a bit too much.

That said, when they held it together, Clutch were good; Five Horse Johnson were highly enjoyable and the Suffrajets were above average. A good time was had by Hannah and I.
