If anything Hendrix is underrated. You don't listen to (good) Hendrix, it comes at you. Page only just touched that zeitgeist on "Achilles Last Stand".

But to address the original topic, I have personally met people who think that modern "R&B" is music. People that go out and actually spend money on such tripe and avidly await their next serving.

Personally I don't quite get how homogeneous monotonal droning about how much (usually leased by truly sad wannabes) bling you have and how many ******* you've ****** qualifies as Blues. And I don't see how there is any musical talent there. May Robert Johnson have his way with 50 Cent in Hell.

Rant over.

I think there's some genuinely good rap; Public Enemy, Digital Underground, NWA, and the like. But the stuff today is garbage to my ears.

I wasn't talking about rap. Rap can have some great dynamics. I loved Ice Cube's "Predator" album, for example. Like you I think the modern stuff is garbage.

R&B seems to me to survive solely on music videos featuring T&A.

I like those choices BTW, Cail. Saw PE live in '92.

Ah, my bad. Yeah, R&B died in the early '80s.

Most Overplayed/Overrated Songs

Getting inspiration from taraswizards STH thread, ;) , what are the songs you absolutely hate to hear, or that you always hear, that everyone else somehow seems to love to hear? The ones that get played on the jukebox 90 billion frickin times? :-x Songs that continuously get voted "song of all time", and such?

Stairway to Heaven would certainly be on the list of overrated in the perennial all time slot (nods to taraswizard). Gimme 3 Steps I just can't seem to escape no matter where I go, and GNR's Sweet Child O Mine ranks as my my number one all time "rank" song, god I hate that song! :-x I'll throw Layla under the bus as well on this run..... :P

I would have to agree with you Es except that I like to hear Sweet Child in the car while driving so that I can sing along at the top of my lungs doing my horrifically obnoxious and overdramatic Assh--- Rose impression. 8) I would add Freebird to the list. I don't mind hearing Stairway once in awhile though. :P I would also add Rush's "Tom Sawyer" to the list.

Uh oh. I thought for sure that would be "our" song after all those discussions about that torrid, steamy, crazy monkey sex affair discussions we had been having..... 8O :P

Agree with everything so far except Sweet Child and Layla (Esmer is a blasphemer!) I would add Boston's More than a feeling.

I figured it'd be Springsteen's "Goin' Down". By the way, have I mentioned I can breathe through my eyelids?

"Old Man" by Neil Young. I love the song, but come on. "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35" by Dylan - an absolutely awful song, yet the one by him I hear the most on the radio.

Umm... You know I can practically lick my eyelid with my tongue right? If you sing me "Fire" by Springsteen then I might have to show you things that can be done with a nine inch tongue that you never imagined... 8O  I don't know what it is about that song but it makes me want to make men scream with ecstasy.

I really like "Sweet Child", though I do find myself a bit embarrassed that Slash ran across that riff while making fun of it.
