The Chronicles of the Orcs of Enstrom wrote:The close of the dark years were times of fear, and portents were seen on Eiren and in the heavens as that time drew to its close. The Orcs, seeing the signs, cried to the heavens in fear, “Who is there to save us, nomads and forgotten among the great races of Eiren? Will no god come to protect us? For the other races and the inhabitants of the Abyss grow restless and we have no sign!”
Then, one day, from the Drazul clan, came messengers.....

My thanks, O-gon-cho and Devaguhya. *bows*
O-gon-cho, nomadic Centaurs have never been a problem. During most of the Interdiction, nobody has been a problem to the Forests. And, again, I am not assuming any in the Pantheon will intentionally harm the Forests. The danger comes simply because we exist. We inspire our followers. We scare them. Just by being here, we cause them to change their behaviors. I simply ask that all try to ensure these changes are not to the detriment of the Forests.

A question, Zephyr. In our absence, although not yours, there have sprung many different buildings and cities made of wood. I would assume that this ruling you have made is to prevent excessive use of cutting wood. But to assume is to make asses of us both, so I ask.The simplest way to say things is this: Treat the Forests the way the Forests want to be treated. Some things are obvious transgressions. Do not "clear the land" to make room for a settlement. Do not cut down Trees because you need wood for building materials. Do not presume!!
A natural part of the forest is the death and birth of trees. Does this ruling supersede ALL cutting of wood? As of now, are we only to build with stone and metal?

I too question this. Does not the clearing of elder trees allow for the sun to touch the seedlings? Does it not encourage new growth as the brushfire clears the soil for new sproutings? Surely the forests beg for new growth and new knowledge and do not wish to remain stagnant and ignorant. Surely you have learned from our dalliance Zephyr, that pain can be pleasure and pleasure be pain. Surely you wish to glean knowing from all that can be acquired. The pain of lost trees, cut down as such allows the pleasure of new trees to take hold. There can not be gain without loss or loss without gain, it is the balance of all that is.
Yes. To ride one end of a spectrum is to become powerless. You must find the middle ground, to be truly powerful. Cutting no trees will result in death below, and cutting all trees; above. Which is why I assume that the ruling was the cutting of excess.Keev Furaha wrote:There can not be gain without loss or loss without gain, it is the balance of all that is.

The short answer, Tawhiri-matea, is: Yes, it is the excessive use of Wood I am attempting to prevent.
The long answer... And some of this is repitition, but I want all to fully understand me and my domain.
If things continued the way they have been for the last several hundred years, there would likely never be a problem. Maybe things would occasionally get out of hand in one location or another.
Unfortunately, things will not continue the way they have been. We are here. As I said, many followers take it upon themselves to do extreme things that they feel glorifies their deity. But the danger can be from us. What if a, say, Unzen decides he needs a fleet of warships? Next thing I know, a small Forest has been decimated. Whether deity-driven or not, there will be more building going on now.
However, it cannot be done at the expense of my Forests. They are my domain, as surely as Undeath is Unzen's and Weather is Tawhiri-matea's. How would either of you feel if, to benefit my followers and power, I found a way to eliminate Undeath or Weather? Obviously, that would be unacceptable.
Well, destroying the Forests is no more acceptable.
My domain is quite different from, say, Bel's. Mine is entirely physical. And it is even different from yours, Tawhiri-matea. Yours is also physical, but it is not in any set location. In addition, yours can be used excessively by any number of beings, whether followers of yours or not, and, unless they are somehow destroying the possibility of Weather, you will not be weakened. I, on the other hand, will be weakened if there is a general trend toward greater construction of Wooden ships, buildings, or what have you. (Dagon's domain is entirely physical, and in a set location. But good luck destroying the Seas! <grin>)
But I am aware of the role Wood has always played. To say it is now forbidden to use Wood as building materials is, to say the least, impracticle. And, again, if things continued as they have for some time, it would not be necessary. Without deities, Eiran and its inhabitants have reached a balance. Forests have grown to a glorious amount! Wood is used, but not in greedy, wasteful ways. What is needed is used, and no more.
But what is considered to be "needed" is all going to change now. I'm just saying that the needs and desires of members of the Pantheon and their followers cannot come at the expense of the Forests and me. The Forests themselves and the Tree Elders in them will resist efforts that are harmful. Those who do not mean harm will heed them, and I thank you in advance.

Tawahir-Matae and Keev Furaha:
I understand my brother's aversion to wood from his forests being used/cut/burned, etc.
If you find it difficult to find the building materials you need, my Nhruuk will be happy to construct the most beautiful stone, granite, and marble structures that will be strong, secure, and functional. They are able to create elaborate carvings and work the rock in the most unique ways.

I appreciate your leave for normal usage for building materials. Perhaps you can develop specific trees that grow building materials. They could cast off such lumber as humans occasionally cut their hair. You could then sell such building materials.Zephyr wrote: But I am aware of the role Wood has always played. What say you brother Zephyr? If I or my domain can help you, I would be glad to support your forests. Although I would think that their normal Life growth would need to be accelerated for such production

I fully understand your standpoint, Zephyr. Of all the deities now present in Eiran, only you have the very real possibility of being killed, should you not immediately take control of your Forests. I will respect your Woods, as I respect you.

I agree, an ingenious idea, and I will gladly use it.An ingenious idea, Devaguhya! *bows* If anyone needs larger amounts of Wood than the Forests and I are able to safely give, I will use any drps they give me to speed up the creation and production of just such a Tree. I will begin at once on my own, although without drps for the time being.
This also is a an excellent offer, and I will be sure to deal with you in the near future, Calais.Tawahir-Matae and Keev Furaha:

158th day of research study
of the plate boundaries in the desert south of The Style
We have spent almost two seasons in our study of the plate boundary and we should be able to complete our research soon. The students are eager to return to their families but they do not complain. They would be just as eager to remain if it meant that they could study the earth longer and for any reason given. We can complete the maps in the texts when we return to the Cluster and receive grade augmentations.
The Abyss is ever-present. We still cannot decipher its material or depth. Yet we hear screams and cries from within it now and then even beyond the ice walls. It is a haunting sound and some students fear that its inhabitants will destroy our camp. Its presence is disturbing to us as it is not of earth and it is with some anxiety that I await the arrival of Stonemaster Among. Perhaps his vast experience will give him an understanding of the Abyss that I lack.

In The Shattered Lands, a small company of Ice Titan traders made their way across the Moonbridge in the direction of Void’s Ward. Their leader, Orlen, felt uneasy but wasn’t sure why. The journey had gone very smoothly, in fact. They were not ambushed by brigands, they’ve made good time and travelling has been easy, the icy winter of Eiran being ideal conditions for Titan excursions.
Soon they’d be back in Void’s Ward, where there is a market for anything you can imagine. But Void’s ward was not their destination, just a stop on the way, somewhere to exchange the goods they’d transported from Ilyria. After that it would be home, to the Frozen land of the Icewalls .
Just as they passed the midway point on the moonbridge, they heard a great noise, a bellowing roar emanating from the depths of the chasm. As the noise continued to grow in volume Orlen realised that it wasn’t getting louder, it was getting closer!
Everyone knows the creatures don’t attack you on the moonbridges; nobody knows why, that’s just the way it’s always been. Orlen was getting worried though, because the noise just grew and grew to almost deafening levels.
“Oh shit!” someone shouted, pointing into the void where a green glow could be seen rapidly approaching. Everyone was frozen with fear for a moment until Orlen bellowed “Run for it you fools! Do you want to find out what’s coming for us? I sure as hell don’t!”
Everyone took off at a run, many abandoning their valuable goods in favour of speed, but Orlen stood on the spot and braced himself for whatever might be coming. He didn’t do this out of any particular bravery, just intense curiosity. Despite what he’d said moments before, he couldn’t leave without finding out who or what had decided to pursue them.
As the green light got closer the noise grew to an almost unbearable level and Orlen had to clasp his hands to the sides of his head to protect his ears from the blast. He was almost falling to his knees with pain when the noise suddenly stopped. The green glow had not vanished though, and Orlen could make out a shape within the glow. It was the form of a warrior, holding a dented shield and what once must have been a fine sword, now a shadow of its former glory.
Orlen stood transfixed. The warrior seemed to be an example of perfection; muscular and powerful, with the face of almost angelic beauty marred only by a terrible scare running diagonally the whole length of the face and neck, reaching almost to the chest.
Suddenly the apparition threw his shield directly at Orlen with such speed that he’d have had no chance at all to move, even if he hadn’t already been rooted to the spot. At the exact same moment the warrior resumed his upward journey, disappearing out of sight above. The moment before the shield struck him, Orlen saw the warrior’s shattered blade slam into the shield and pin it to the moonbridge just centimetres from his feet.
The broken weapon was so sharp that it had pierced the shield right through and embedded itself in the moonbridge. Aren’t they impenetrable? Nothing the Ice Titans had ever tried had been able to even scratch the moonbridges, what could this weapon be made of that it could perform such a feat?
Distracted by the sword and shield, Orlen did not have time to notice that the warrior had landed on the moonbridge and stood beside him .
“I am Amplarx, God of Vengeance. You have seen my power and I have seen your bravery. You will be my prophet and your people will worship me. In return I will grant you protection from and revenge against your foes. I am here for revenge myself. You shall help me, and I shall help you.”
Orlen was a bit taken aback, but his instincts as a leader quickly took hold as he realised the implications of the situation. He immediately agreed and Amplarx disappeared back into the void. Orlen headed off home to spread the news of his encounter, and convince the other Ice Titans to join him in worshipping his new Lord.
