Anyway, this is just part of my campaign to bring "ordinate" back into (more) common usage.

Thanks Linna, you caused me to go and expore a new word. The three posters were interesting (some of my favourite posters on the Watch!). And also interesting: rus was quoting Dickens and Holsety was quoting C.S Lewis (I think). So a veritable host of interesting users of the word.

I was then prompted to do a search of one of my often extolled words:

Ordinary : 1157

Which, interestingly (but not that surprisingly given its spelling), has the same root as ordinate.

I LIKE flibbertigibbet. iirc Captain Aubrey uses it to describe Louisa Worgan (within hearing, poor woman)
