if you think of the board as an extended family, this sort of "alting" does raise issues.
And what about not trolling?
but the problem with doing anything that requires an audience is that your intentions may not translate all that well.
i warned when bbf was allowed to troll here that this sort of thing would happen. i warned that the open ended question as to if bbf was really lord foul needed to be settled.
instead we seem to have been made unwilling/unknowing victims of some sort of meta-prank.
i am not really sure how i ended up as the voice of reason here...
but this entire episode extending back to whenever bbf started out leaves a bitter / metallic taste in my mouth.
it should be ended. once a name is used it should be retired when the person decides to no longer be around. a variation on the spelling of that name would be acceptable in my opinion. but the deliberate mucking with identity should be discouraged.
in the end were the shenanigans worth the integrity of what should be a place of respite for people? a place where friendships are made? a community that has seen members fall in love with one another? a community that should pride itself on being better than the countless mires and sinkholes found on the internets?
we don't need a zeph. we don't need a bbf. we don't need a false foul.
I am rather disappointed and surprised by this revelation sgt. null. First and foremost, I thought you were coming out on the side of support for my Topic on saving the watch but now it seems as though you have disregarded what I said.
For those who have not read that topic, I asked whether or not
Kevin's Watch was on its way out, based largely on the lack of creative writing and the high amount of drama. To have two, possibly three, threads going about the ethics of alts and not much else being written, seems a bit like a slow death for this website.
I was hoping that sgt. null posting that poem was an act of solidarity saying "No, I will not contribute to the overly dramatic question of alts that will continue permanently, I will add to the artistic dialectic instead". Then I came on here and see that after writing a poem with me and then contributing another two poems for my topic, that he now falls back on me being a troll.
Null, has anyone else on this site given any support, any credence to the work you have done? Has anyone else created an outlet for creative ends that people will actually pay attention to (except for Effaeldm, I will cover this in a second)?
I have seen none.
Let me state my argument again, without my flowery and idiosyncratic words.
The Watch is dying.
No one posts anything except for sgt. null and I that has anything to do with creative writing or art.
No one really posts anything else that is more than a status update.
The most popular topics right now are circular arguments for electronic rules that will never be resolved.
The Watch is dying.
It needs to be helped along.
I pose we stop the accusations, the strong arming and all the paranoia and make this a site that prides itself on a creative outlet.
Why else does this website exist but to inspire those who are members or have read the Chronicles? It was meant to make you think and right now I see a bunch of users that are set in their ways, unwilling to see that their house is crumbling around them.
I did not want to discuss alts any further but let me say this.
This is a question of faith based evidence.
You collect the evidence and believe someone is or is not an alt and that's it. It's the internet, not the real world. You will never know for sure what is real but hopefully, the evidence will support strongly a position that you can have faith in. That or we have to take a screen capture of our faces each time we post.
Ladies and gentlemen, the internet has changed. This is symptomatic of the culture behind it and regardless of how much you believe this website is a bubble, it is not. The people on the forum have changed as well, because we all live in the physical world that changes us. I say we should accept this change and build on it through a dialectic. This forum cannot exist and will not very soon if the immovable, often paranoid demeanor does not change.
I personally want to see this website enrich lives through the dialectical advancement of conversation, argument and creativity.
I do not want to see its destruction through inaction, accusation and scapegoating.
sgt. null says we do not need I or this zeph or fake Foul. I say, that they make this website less two dimensional, less of an echo chamber, more open to change.
For a few days I was upset that Foul was not my Foul but you know what? I'm over that not and congratulate
Effaeldm for posting one of the only string of interesting topics that has appeared in a very long time. I am sorry i could not see that it was a joke but that it was also a salute to the former poster known as Lord Foul. I wish I had found out in private that Foul was not foul so that this whole debacle had not arisen.
I have received several messages from moderators and it is clear that they think I'm a troll and that they want to save K.W. from me based off of their perceived warm feelings for K.W. I am lead to believe that this was one of the reasons that Effael Foul was outed, this feeling, this status quo.
Effaeldm, you posted a lot of really interesting things, that were thought provoking.
Thank you.
In closing, ladies and gentlemen of Kevin's Watch, let us not sit by and watch this place crumble. We need more minds like Effaeldm, like null and yes like me out there trying to add a little flavor to a non seasoned steak of words.
My ways not agree with you sometimes but at least I am trying to get a dialectic going in a positive direction.
Let us not sit idly by as we watch the Watch watch itself go "Nooooooo!" over the cliff of mediocrity and straight down into a hole of no return.
That would be pure
