White Noise good? You must be mistaken. A good idea, yes, but a shocking movie. Not as bad as Out of Bounds though. That takes the award for worst movie ever.

I also really enjoyed Assault on Precinct 13, and The Interpreter, and The Amityville Horror, although I did go to the last one with no expextations.

Mr & Mrs Smith and [/i]House of Wax[/i] are next on my list. Yay.

Jane Austin's Persuasion, the theatrical version, which I was delighted to find at a 3-for-2 sale.

For women, I think this is Ciaran Hinds' most attractive role.

I watched National Treasure last night...thought it was really really dumb, but it managed to be just entertaining enough not to turn it off.

My younger son is off at wrestling camp for most of the week, so I am going to try to watch some more R rated things before work this week, since I'll have the house to myself. I think I will start with Sideways, since a lot of my friends have told me its a must-see.

VS I said good in some parts---the reviews were awful--I simply liked it better than those people did. And I never recommended it. Deborah Unger's hot tho...

I rented White Noise today - blame Danlo, had me intrigued. I avoided it when it was in the theater, but actually ended up liking it more than I expected to.

Well, I watched Sideways this morning, and that's two hours of my life I wish I could get back.

The acting was very good, the setting, the editing, all very good. Very well made and produced movie.

But I absolutely hated the story, about a middle aged, self-absorbed, shallow, and selfish man, who casually and cruelly uses other people for his own entertainment. And his buddy, a depressed drunk who knows his friend is being bad, but enables him anyway.

While I did get a guilty chuckle out of a few scenes, I actually felt bad about laughing, given the subject material.

I guess I just prefer silly comedies like Bowfinger, where you laugh with the characters rather than at them.

I turned off Sideways three times and then returned it--reminded me of an Albert Brooks comedy, and I can't stand Albert Brooks! I agree duchy-I found no sympathy for the goateed guys problems. (and I really didn't like White Noise all that much! It simply held my interest)

Watched "Lemony Snickets: A Series of Unfortunate Events" the other day. I wasn't totally sold on it at first, but I actually did end up enjoying the movie quite a bit.

Just rented "The Pacifier". That was a pretty cute movie. I wasn't expecting it to be great, but it actually was pretty funny for the most part. Very predictable and the ending was typically sappy, but it's a family movie, so that's to be expected.

Next up: Rented "The Aviator" as well, so hopefully we'll be able to watch that tonight.

I keep wanting to see Kate Blanchett's Oscar-winning performance in Aviator, but the rest of the movie doesn't attract me at all. I suppose one day I'll catch a re-airing of it on cable.

Finished watching The Aviator yesterday. I thought she did a good job acting-wise, though I'm not familar with the "real" Katherine Hepburn, so I couldn't say if her portrayal was spot-on or not. Leo DiCaprio did a good job as well, IMHO. Given what I've read about Howard Hughes, he managed to play him rather convincingly for the most part.

I wouldn't say it was Scorsese's best movie ever but I never felt like I couldn't wait for it to end, unlike Gangs of New York.

Next up: Borrowed "Ray" and "Friday Night Lights" from the in-laws. Stay tuned.

I've been rooting for years for Cate (corrected spelling) Blanchett to win her Oscar, so that's the greatest significance to me of Aviator.

My favorite Katherine Hepburn role was Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion In Winter, in which she was much older than the clips of Aviator I've seen. She was a fabulous Eleanor.
