Heh, well, if anyone plans on getting totally sloshed, I can probably serve as a designated driver. Heh. Don't mind, I don't need to drink.-jay

I've pretty much given up on drinking, too. Boy, we sound like a fun crowd, huh? Lucimay, are you sure you still want to come?
The Radisson is right next door to the Hampton Inn. They share a driveway. And the Hampton Inn uses the Radisson's restaurant for their room service. But they may be full-up, too, I dunno. And if it's a B&B you're after, I'm thinking Crystal City will be fresh out....
We've got both Friday and Saturday nights, y'know -- we could do Friday night at a quieter venue and Saturday night someplace louder (and the homebodies among us can bail out after dinner). That Austin Grill in Silver Spring sounds like fun.... <ali tries to envision an "upscale Irish pub" and fails>
Luci, if it's a big deal to you to see the Exorcist house, we'll figure out a way to put it on the tour.

i know it's ridiculous but it kinda IS a big deal for a variety of reasons which i will no doubt have a good time explaining to you all in person!!

but it must be at night!!!
oh and Al...most of us have both fri and sat but Cail can only come on Fri or Sun, i think he said, so i was figurin Friday for Cail to join us so if he DOES decide to get knackered legless he won't have to pay too badly monday morning!!
I CAN'T WAIT!!! i'm very excited.

I'll still be in town on Sunday night too, I don't fly out until Monday morning.

Actually, Im available whenever. And if no one else is drinking, I'll abstain, since it's no fun watching someone else get drunk.
But again, I defer to the people who took the time to set this thing up, and to the people who are taking time out of their schedules to come here. I'll do what it takes, 'cause I just want to meet y'all.

I'm used to watching people get drunk, so don't hold back on my account. Out of my circle of friends, I'm the only one that doesn't drink. Enjoy yourself, that's the most important thing.

If I enjoy myself, it'll be pants-optional....
It's impossible to get anyone to go streaking with you if you're the only one who's drunk.
And perhaps the first meeting isn't the time to meet Cail the Tank.

i don't, as a general rule, drink. but, on special occasions i will have a shot or two. i think THIS occasion fits "special" criteria!! and besides, we have to toast the absent Watchers!!
BUT...having said that...drunk Lucimay doesn't live here anymore!!
(that doesn't mean i don't streak, tho!!)

I'm
always good for a couple of beers, but I can't drive after the first one unless I've had a couple hours to let it wear off.

I'm such a lightweight.
Gonna get back to looking for pubs/restaurants when I get home. Still on county time, here.

Okay, here's another place in MD (Bethesda, this time):
Flanagan's Harp & Fiddle . An Irish pub, live music, televised football (by which I mean soccer), a good review in the Post (yeah, that's my new standard

), and they have venison!! It's a bit up 355 in MD, and now that I look at it, not as close to Metro as I'd hoped. Here's the
google map. The red dot is the restaurant and the green dot is the Metro station... though I don't know why you'd want to go such a roundabout way to get to it... even in a car.
Hmm... there's also The Garden, at
The Inn & Conference Center, Univ. of Maryland Univ. College... Jay would have no excuse!
From the Post:
"... There are no signs proclaiming its location. Just follow those for the conference center, which is part of a state program for adult part-time learners. Inside you will find the Garden, which offers American standards with a decided Maryland flair.
Through double French doors, just off the main lobby, the restaurant beckons with simple formality. Queen Anne-style chairs are pulled up to white-tablecloth-draped tables, each adorned with a single flower.
At night, small oil lamps and brass chargers set the scene. Doors along one side of the room lead to an interior Asian garden filled with tables, where one can dine in good weather. On the opposite wall is a display of artwork from Bali and China. A small bar fills a corner.
...There is Maryland crab soup, a broth-based vegetable soup rich with sweet crabmeat, though perhaps too gently spiced for true aficionados. The spinach, artichoke and crab dip, served with pita wedges, is rich and fresh-tasting, but not the least heavy. And the seafood sampler features a mini-crab cake, deep-fried calamari and grilled shrimp, all of which allow the inherent flavors of the seafood to shine.
The flatbread salad, offered at dinner, tops a slice of flat bread -- accented with garlic and Parmesan cheese -- with baby lettuces and other greens in a light balsamic vinaigrette. The Caribbean chicken, a luncheon appetizer, is fingers of breast meat, deftly fried to a golden brown, in a jerk barbecue sauce.
As a tribute to the artwork in the 45-seat restaurant, Hutcheson's menu also includes a few Asian-inspired dishes, including California Asian shrimp salad and pan-Asian salmon, served with banana-papaya chutney.
Maryland-style crab cakes are available as part of a salad or sandwich, or as an entree. In each, the cakes are mostly lump crabmeat, with little filler as distraction.
But crab isn't the only thing on the menu. Other standard dinner entrees include two chicken preparations (one with crab), two pasta dishes, two beef selections and rack of lamb. The filet of beef, twin tenderloins, was grilled just to medium rare, as requested, and served atop roasted red potatoes and asparagus.
Desserts display a decided University of Maryland bent, beginning with ice cream from the university's dairy. It's rich and full of flavor, and available only on the university campus. The turtle cheesecake -- a nod to the university's mascot -- is dense and chock-full of caramel and chocolate on a chocolate cookie crust. The chocolate love cake is almost like eating pure fudge, and nearly as addictive. "
Can you tell I'm getting a bit obessive about this?

More later.

Um ... looks like you'll be staying at the Washington Monument?

Great location, and even better view, but too many stairs for my liking.
