And the Watch would lose many intelligent, valued comments from a master poster. Doesn't seem to be in the web sites best interest does it?
Spoiler
Happy Birthday BTW!

Hello, new to fora, long time fan of The Chronicles (more so than any of his other stuff incidentally, so if you've got a favorite other SRD piece, I'd like to hear of it).

Welcome to the Watch Cable.

Many people (especially here-especially me) were very surprised when they read the GAP series.

Darker than the Chronicles, but very well written.

If it's not your cup of tea, we have lots and lots of Chronicles disscusions here.

Have you read Runes yet?

Yeah, I ate it in about three days, then started trolling for information about the next series of books (Good gravy, the internet's a great thing... I used to just sit around stewing in anticipation, now I can stew in anticipation with a date in mind).

I liked the Gap series a lot, much more so than the Mordant stuff. He continued his tradition of defying stock roles and characters by inverting announcing them, then negating them... a nice trick for the more literal readers. Still, the chronicles have a flavor to them I haven't found elsewhere... and it's well sustained, as opposed to a few of the other authors (e.g. Moorecock and the Stormbringer stuff, which is decent for about one book, then just devolves with little new to say... after only a couple hundred pages).

Welcome, Cable!

Meh, I'm still a newbie to SRD's stuff - I'm working on The Illearth War still - so I can't say much beyond that. ^.^"

Greetings!

I've been a Donaldson fan since the early 80's when I first read the Chronicles as a teen. I re-read them again in the late 80's and have since gone on to read most of his work including the Gap series.

Last fall I found out about The Runes of the Earth and nearly fell out of my chair with excitement! I was tempted to buy the book right away but since I hadn't read the originals in so long I decided to go through them again first. I just finished The Wounded Land and am about to start on The One Tree. I am trying to go slowly so I can savor the story all over again.

When I found this site I was very pleased to see so many fans of the series. You have done a splendid job dissecting the novels and your insights have made my third read through of the books my most enjoyable yet!

So thank you to all who contributed to the 'Dissecting The Land' threads and I look forward to reading the remainder of those discussions in the coming months!

Welcome to the Watch Lord Humungus. :D

Look around, and join in anywhere you like. Might want to avoid the Runes forum though. :D
