Saturday, I bought a 24" mac computer. I spent the afternoon setting it up, though I still have to go out and get a firewire cable. I thought I had one, though maybe the dog got it. He likes to chew on cables. Yesterday, I went to that surprise birthday party. (Sorry, Danlo, not yours, but I hope you had a happy birthday too!) Amazingly, all things considered, he was surprised. I got home from that about 6 pm and promptly fell asleep. I can't take the excitement, it seems.

 Yeah, this "getting old" thing sucks....

Boring weekend. Drove Magickmaker back and forth to work both days. Did a little shopping. Oh, Magickmaker's dad stopped by on Saturday to bring her her grandmother's watch (which, you may remember from our last exciting episode, got lost in his car); then he took us both to lunch. I almost had a heart attack when he paid for my burrito....

Anyway, yesterday I cut book club (I hadn't done the reading anyhow...) and worked on my story for the anthology and made quiche.

What Stutty's doing this weekend...

You should note... Our raft will have a four piece German band on it, launch is at 0830, and yes, those are mugs of beer....

... the first rutsch is around noon, so most everyone on the raft is pretty much wasted at that point...

I went to brunch today with Lucimay, Julie, Heatherly, Karen and Moose. Afterwards we went to the free concert in Golden Gate Park and it was awesome. These pictures are of Elvis Costello playing with Whine and Spirits.

I forgot about this thread! Cool about the concert, Jenn!

I put my weekend doings in the "how do you feel today" thread. Basically I spent the whole bloody weekend walking around....

He was awesome. Unfortunately Lucimay had wandered off to go see another artist before Elvis came on stage and didn't make it back in time for the first song which was the one she wanted to hear, "Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes." Not sure if that's the actual title but you know what song I mean. They played a lot of good stuff. Some new stuff not recorded yet, some cover tunes one of which is a Van Morrison tune but I can't think of the name of it. He rules. I love me some Elvis Costello. When Lucimay told me he was playing I wigged out. Karen said she didn't know who he was then I told her oh yes you do because I play him often when cooking or prepping dinner and she's helped me often enough. Elvis Costello is one of my favorite artists to listen to when I need creative incentive. I adore him. Too bad he's married or I would have had to rush the stage and beg him to father my babies.

That sounds fun, Jenn! :)

I spent the weekend with my parents. It was my dad's 68th birthday yesterday, and I'm very happy to have been there to celebrate with him. :)

Does your school close for Columbus Day, LM?
I haven't been in an educational system that recognizes that holiday since I was in 4th grade back in the '60s.

Go eat a bagel from Bruegger's in Harvard Square for me. Then tell me every delicious bite, LM. I miss good bagels. Or better yet, a cannoli from Mike's Bakery in the North End. Oh how I miss good cannolis. OR go to the museum of science and run up and down the musical stairs. Used to love to get sparky and go do that with my friends. Drove the museum guards nutty. :P

Well that must be new, LM. Take into consideration I haven't lived there since 92..... 8O Does Boston still employ the student id gets you into any museum for a dollar rule? :P I used to do my homework at the aquarium or at the greek tapestry wing at the art museum thanks to that when I was a student.

oh we had such a great night tonight - went to the literature festival 'All-Stars Poetry Slam' and it was so much fun! I had sore sides from laughing, tears from war stuff and beaten up kids stuff and ECT stuff, was baffled and fascinated by random weirdness....

It was videoed and I so so so hope it appears somewhere on the internet cos there was one performance that Montressor REALLY needs to see!

But in the meantime, here's a couple of the finalists (in other places)

Byron Vincent

And the winner (not my choice but he was good)
...oops can't find a clip of him yet (Steve Rooney).....[/url]

I'm cocooning this weekend. 8) The weather was fabulous today so, since I didn't have to drive to Baltimore for Czech class, I finally got the desk and bookcase varnished. Now I get to wait about 24 hours before I can bring them in from the balcony and set everything to rights again. I will be so pleased to have this project done!

Jenn,

There's a significant student discount at Boston museums still. Not so low as a dollar as far as I know but it's pretty significant. It might be different for students of universities actually in Boston but I don't think it is. All I know is that I still have my pass from the museum I worked at over the summer and I can get in to all of the major ones in Boston/Cambridge (MFA, Isabella Stewart Gardner, all of Harvard's, etc.) for free. :P And I can usually bring guests so if anyone wants a dose of Boston culture and I'm not at school... :P

I was at the Mass Poetry Festival all weekend and got to meet Ed Sanders, Robert Pinsky and Martin Espada. Yes, I have photographic evidence of this. Everything was AMAZING.
