by Belly
album: Sweet Ride (2002)

In my garden
We were golden
Then you walked away
In my garden
You were something, there
You walked to me
Buried in my garden
I see you there
Buried in my garden
I will catch you there
That once, in my garden
Broken my shell
That once in my garden

Be there in my garden
Be there in my garden

In my garden
We were golden
Then you walked away
In my garden
We were something there
You walked away
Buried in your garde
I'll see you there
In my garden
I will catch you there
I was in my garden
Buried myself
I was in my garden
Buried myself

Be there in my garden
Be there in my garden

  • Dancing in The Moonlight

When I passed you in the doorway
You took me with a glance
I should have took that last bus home
But I asked you for a dance

Now we go steady to the pictures
I always get chocolate stains on my pants
    My father he’s going crazy
    Say’s I’m living in a trance

But I’m dancing in the moonlight
It’s caught me in it’s spotlight
    It’s alright, alright
    Dancing in the moonlight
On the long hot summer night

It’s three o’clock in the morning
And I’m on the streets again
    I disobeyed another warning
I should have been in by ten

Now I won’t get out until sunday
I’ll have to say I stayed with friends
But it’s a habit worth forming
If it means to justify the end

Lilly Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
by

Bob Dylan

The festival was over, the boys were all plannin' for a fall,
The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin' in the wall.
The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin' wheel shut down,
Anyone with any sense had already left town.
He was standin' in the doorway lookin' like the Jack of Hearts.

He moved across the mirrored room, "Set it up for everyone," he said,
Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads.
Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin,
"Could you kindly tell me, friend, what time the show begins?"
Then he moved into the corner, face down like the Jack of Hearts.

Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs,
Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair.
Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide,
A gentle breeze was blowin', you could feel it from inside.
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts.

Big Jim was no one's fool, he owned the town's only diamond mine,
He made his usual entrance lookin' so dandy and so fine.
With his bodyguards and silver cane and every hair in place,
He took whatever he wanted to and he laid it all to waste.
But his bodyguards and silver cane were no match for the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary combed her hair and took a carriage into town,
She slipped in through the side door lookin' like a queen without a crown.
She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear,
"Sorry, darlin', that I'm late," but he didn't seem to hear.
He was starin' into space over at the Jack of Hearts.

"I know I've seen that face before," Big Jim was thinkin' to himself,
"Maybe down in Mexico or a picture up on somebody's shelf."
But then the crowd began to stamp their feet and the house lights did dim
And in the darkness of the room there was only Jim and him,
Starin' at the butterfly who just drew the Jack of Hearts.

Lily was a princess, she was fair-skinned and precious as a child,
She did whatever she had to do, she had that certain flash every time she smiled.
She'd come away from a broken home, had lots of strange affairs
With men in every walk of life which took her everywhere.
But she'd never met anyone quite like the Jack of Hearts.

The hangin' judge came in unnoticed and was being wined and dined,
The drillin' in the wall kept up but no one seemed to pay it any mind.
It was known all around that Lily had Jim's ring
And nothing would ever come between Lily and the king.
No, nothin' ever would except maybe the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary started drinkin' hard and seein' her reflection in the knife,
She was tired of the attention, tired of playin' the role of Big Jim's wife.
She had done a lot of bad things, even once tried suicide,
Was lookin' to do just one good deed before she died.
She was gazin' to the future, riding on the Jack of Hearts.

Lily washed her face, took her dress off and buried it away.
"Has your luck run out?" she laughed at him, "Well, I guess you must
have known it would someday.
Be careful not to touch the wall, there's a brand-new coat of paint,
I'm glad to see you're still alive, you're lookin' like a saint."
Down the hallway footsteps were comin' for the Jack of Hearts.

The backstage manager was pacing all around by his chair.
"There's something funny going on," he said, "I can just feel it in the air."
He went to get the hangin' judge, but the hangin' judge was drunk,
As the leading actor hurried by in the costume of a monk.
There was no actor anywhere better than the Jack of Hearts.

Lily's arms were locked around the man that she dearly loved to touch,
She forgot all about the man she couldn't stand who hounded her so much.
"I've missed you so," she said to him, and he felt she was sincere,
But just beyond the door he felt jealousy and fear.
Just another night in the life of the Jack of Hearts.

No one knew the circumstance but they say that it happened pretty quick,
The door to the dressing room burst open and a cold revolver clicked.
And Big Jim was standin' there, ya couldn't say surprised,
Rosemary right beside him, steady in her eyes.
She was with Big Jim but she was leanin' to the Jack of Hearts.

Two doors down the boys finally made it through the wall
And cleaned out the bank safe, it's said that they got off with quite a haul.
In the darkness by the riverbed they waited on the ground
For one more member who had business back in town.
But they couldn't go no further without the Jack of Hearts.

The next day was hangin' day, the sky was overcast and black,
Big Jim lay covered up, killed by a penknife in the back.
And Rosemary on the gallows, she didn't even blink,
The hangin' judge was sober, he hadn't had a drink.
The only person on the scene missin' was the Jack of Hearts.

The cabaret was empty now, a sign said, "Closed for repair,"
Lily had already taken all of the dye out of her hair.
She was thinkin' 'bout her father, who she very rarely saw,
Thinkin' 'bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law.
But, most of all she was thinkin' 'bout the Jack of Hearts.
"I use my gun whenever kindness fails"

If you had not have fallen then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground

I patched up your broken wing and hung around for a while
trying to keep your spirits up and your fever down

So leave me if you need to,
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.

I knew someday that you would fly away
for love's the greatest healer to be found

So leave me if you need to,
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

Fly on fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up than see you down

So leave me if you need to,
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground.

The Gypsy Life

john gorka

There is nothing in my head today
Nothing awful there to ponder or confuse me
Go ahead in what you have to say
And I will listen as I listen to the news

I know the whole truth there is horrible
It's better if you take a little at a time
Too much and you are not portable
Not enough and you'll be making happy rhymes

You might like the gypsy life
You judge your progress by the phases of the moon
Get your compass and your sharpest knife
People love you when they know you're leaving soon

If you choose to settle in one place
You may be harder over on the ones you love
Like a tree without the growing space
You will be taking from below and from above

You might like the gypsy life
You judge your progress by the phases of the moon
Get your compass and your sharpest knife
People love you when they know you're leaving soon

There is nothing in my head today
I'll cross the river people as I cross my heart
The pigeon bridges are a place to stay
I will go under as I try to do my part

You might like the gypsy life
You judge your progress by the phases of the moon
Get your compass and your sharpest knife
People love you when they know you're leaving soon

In the twilight glow I seen her
Blue eyes crying in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again
Love is like a dying ember
And only memories remain
And through the ages I'll remember
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Someday when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll hand in hand again
In the land that knows no parting
Blue eyes crying in the rain

The Dream Cafe

You were the woman in the blue mask,
standin there beside your dress.
All the things I wanted from you,
I never could express.
I thought I saw you once in Munich,
but you slipped away.
I'm in the corner with the coffee
at The Dream Cafe.

For once I didn't say anything stupid--
my lover never once looked bored.
And soldiers come in smeared with lipstick,
like the last day of war.
The band divided up the money,
but the drummer could not stay.
He said he's gonna meet us later,
at The Dream Cafe.

When you turned from the window,
in your worn out slip,
put your eyes to my fingers,
while the ceiling dripped,
I just could not leave you.
I heard a motorcycle pull away.
Yes, I'll meet you after midnight,
at The Dream Cafe.

There's flowers now on Linn Street,
and the new moon just above.
They tore down all the houses,
where we used to make love.
But, they'd been long abondoned,
when we went there, anyway.
And I can still smell the lilacs,
in the corner of The Dream Cafe.

WeLL we've only been fighting ten years--
do you really have to go?
Couldn't you reconsider,
and do it real, real slow?
I like living with you--
I don't care what you say.
I don't care who you meet,
at The Dream Cafe.

Your eyes roll back to midnight--
lost in a fantasy.
I heard you cry out someone's name,
and baby it was me.
But later as we're walkin',
you seemed so far away.
Am I the man you thought you met,
at The Dream Cafe?

I've come down with a sickness--
I thought you were the cure.
But passion seems to promise more,
than friendship can endure.
You spelled it out in black and white--
my eyes saw shades of gray,
and, so I sit alone tonight,
at The Dream Cafe.

Heat lightning in the mirror,
and the thunder cries out loud.
I can be to you--
you could be to me,
just another face in the crowd.
The plane don't leave 'til midnight--
come with me today.
They'll be plenty of time to be alone,
at The Dream Cafe.

I know what you're thinkin'
What you're thinkin' is easy to see
I know what you're dreamin'
I have those same dreams

Wow!
Reach up to the feet of God
Lookin' for a sign
It was right here all the time, time, time, time!

I am you and you are me

(Do you believe?)
Don't ya trust me?
Me Wise Magic
Ow, baby hold on
(If you could see)
Through my eyes
Me Wise Magic
Ow, hold on

I feel you breathin'
Don't you trust me (trust me)
I feel you agreein'
I know what you need

Wow!
Don't you lie
Just you listen thru me
My words at best to you
A fortune coo-coo-coo-kie
(Who are you and where are we?)

(Do you believe?)
Ow! Don't ya trust me?
Me Wise Magic
Yeah, yeah ow ow!
(If you could see)
Straight through my eyes
Me Wise Magic

A little Zen
headed your way
You'll get it
halfway down the interstate
Four days from now
It all goes clear
A Buddhist riff
for your inner ear

(Do you believe?)
Ow! Don't ya trust me?
Me Wise Magic
Yeah yeah! Oh yeah! Whoa!
(If you could see)
Straight through my eyes
Me Wise Magic
Whoa-oh-oh!

Pancho And Lefty
Written By Townes VanZandt
Recorded By Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson (1982)

Living on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean.
Now you wear your skin like iron,
and your breath is hard as kerosene.
You weren't your mama's only boy, but her favorite one it seems.
She began to cry when you said goodbye, and sank into your dreams.

Pancho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel.
He wore his gun outside his pants, for all the honest world to feel.
Pancho met his match, you know, on the deserts down in Mexico.
Nobody heard his dying words; ah, but that's the way it goes.

All the Federales say,
They could have had him any day.
They only let him slip away,
Out of kindness, I suppose.

Lefty, he can't sing the blues all night long like he used to.
The dust that Pancho bit down south ended up in Lefty's mouth.
The day they laid poor Pancho low, Lefty split for Ohio.
Where he got the bread to go, there ain't nobody knows.

All the Federales say,
They could have had him any day.
They only let him slip away,
Out of kindness, I suppose.

The poets tell how Pancho fell, and Lefty's living in cheap hotels.
The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold, and so the story ends we're told.
Pancho needs your prayers it's true, but save a few for Lefty too.
He only did what he had to do, and now he's growing old.

(All the Federales say,
They could have had him any day.)
They only let him go so long,
Out of kindness, I suppose.

A few grey Federales say
They could have had him any day.
They only let him go so long,
Out of kindness, I suppose.

And when I see the sign that points one way
The lot we used to pass by every day

Just walk away renee
You wont see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
Youre not to blame

From deep inside the tears that Im forced to cry
From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide

Just walk away renee
You wont see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Just walk away renee
You wont see me follow you back home
Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes
For me it cries

Your name and mine inside a heart upon a wall
Still finds a way to haunt me, though theyre so small

Just walk away renee
You wont see me follow you back home
The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same
Youre not to blame
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself

Ponchoand Lefty is a great one. Luci..who sings "Walk away Renee?"

Heres a good one...I send It out to John kerry:

I really should be saying goodnight.
I really shouldn't stay anymore.
It's been so long since I held ya.
I've forgotten what love is for.

I should run on the double . . .
I think I'm in trouble,
I think I'm in trouble.

So come to me darlin' and hold me
Let your honey keep you warm
Been so long since I held ya
I've forgotten what love is for.

I should run on the double . . .
I think I'm in trouble.

willie again

I'm not trying to forget you anymore
I got back into remembering all the love we shared before
And I'd been trying to forget someone who my heart still adores
So I'm not trying to forget you anymore

You were someone who brought happiness into my life
and it did not last forever but that's all right
we were always more than lovers and I'm still your friend
And if I had the chance I'd do it all again

So I'm not trying to forget you anymore
I got back into remembering all the love we had before
And the best days of my life are still when you walk through that door
so I'm not trying to forget you anymore

More than a distant land
Over a shining sea
More than the steaming green
More than the shining eyes

Well they tell me its only a dream in rio
Nothing could be as sweet as it seems
On this very first day down
They remind me son have you so soon forgotten
Often as not its rotten inside
And the mask soon slips away

Strange taste of a tropical fruit
Romantic language of the portuguese
Melody on a wooden flute
Somba floating in the summer breeze

Its alright you can stay asleep
You can close your eyes
You can trust the people of paradise
To call your keeper
And tender your goodbyes

Oh what a night wonderful one in a million
Frozen fire brazillian stars
Oh holy southern cross
Later on take me way downtown in a tin can;
Cant come down from the bandstand
Im never thrown for such a loss when they say

Quando a nossa mae acordar
Andareimoz au sol
Quando a nossa mae acordar
Cantara pelos sertao
Quando a nossa mea acordar
Todos os filios saberao
Todos os filios saberao
E regozilarao

Caught in the rays of the rising sun
On the run from the soldiers gun
Shouting out loud from the angry crowd
The mild the wild and the hungry child
Ill tell you theres more than a dream in rio
I was there on the very day
And my heart came back alive
There was more
More than the singing voices
More than the upturned faces
And more than the shining eyes

But its more than the shining eye
More than the steaming green
More than the hidden hills
More than the concrete christ
More than a distant land
Over a shining sea
More than a hungry child
More like another time
Born of a million years
More than a million years
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

Oh no, here it comes again
can't remember when we came so close to love before
Hold on, good things never last
nothing's in the past, it always seems to come again
again and again and again ooh again oh

Cry out to legions of the brave
time again to save us from the jackals of the street
Ride out, protectors of the realm
capatin's at the helm, sail across the sea of lights

Circles and rings, dragons and kings
weaving a charm and a spell
Blessed by the night, holy and bright
called by the toll of the bell

bloodied angels fast descending
moving on a never-bending light
phantom figures free forever
out of shadows, shining ever-bright

Neon Knights!
Neon Knights! all right!

Cry out to legions of the brave
time again to save us from the jackals of the street
Ride out, protectors of the realm
capatin's at the helm, sail across the sea of lights
again and again, again and again and again

A rumble of thunder, I'm suddenly under your spell
No rhyme or reason, or time of the season, but oh well
The darkened deliver, I shake and I shiver down your soul
You know what to cover, I think for another it's a story told
So get a good hold, yeah

Regiment fooled you, you thought that you knew who you are
A simple equation, that's the relation, but that's gone too far
A time of suspicion, a special condition that we all know
So let it all go!

Turn up the night!
Turn up the night!
Turn up the night, it feels so right!

Nighttime sorrow, taken like a pain
Black will not become a white, it's all the same
Evil lurks in twilight, dances in the dark
Makes you need the movement, like a fire needs a spark to burn!

A rumble of thunder, I'm suddenly under your spell
No rhyme or reason, or time of the season, but oh well
The darkened deliver, I shake and I shiver down your soul
So get a good hold, yeah

Turn up the night!
Turn up the night!
Turn up the night, it feels so right!
Turn up the night!
Turn up the night!
If it feels right
Turn off the light!
Turn up the night!

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

In the misty morning, on the edge of time
We've lost the rising sun, a final sign
As the misty morning rolls away to die
reaching for the stars, we blind the sky

We sailed across the air before we learned to fly
We thought that it could never end
We'd glide above the ground before we learned to run, run
Now it seems our world has come undone

Oh they say that it's over
and it just had to be
ooh they say that it's over
we're lost children of the sea, oh

We made the mountains shake with laughter as we played
hiding in our corner of the world
Then we did the demon dance and rushed to nevermore
threw away the key and locked the door

Oh they say that it's over, yeah
and it just had to be
yes they say that it's over
we're lost children of the sea

In the misty morning, on the edge of time
We've lost the rising sun, a final sign
As the misty morning rolls away to die
reaching for the stars, we blind the sky

Oh they say that it's over, yeah
and it just had to be
oh they say that it's over
poor lost children of the sea, yeah

LOOK OUT! the sky is falling down!
LOOK OUT! The world is spinning round and round and round!
LOOK OUT! The sun is going black, black
LOOK OUT! It's never never never coming back, LOOK OUT!

If there isn't light when no one sees
then how can I know what you might believe?
A story told that can't be real
somehow must reflect the truth we feel, yeah

Fade away, fade away
vanish into small
Fade away, fade away
break the crystal ball - OH!

It's the sign
feels like the time!

On a small world, west of wonder
somewhere, nowhere all
There's a rainbow that will shimmer
when the summer falls
If an echo doesn't answer when it hears a certain song
Then the beast is free to wander
but never is seen around

And it's the Sign of the Southern Cross
it's the Sign of the Southern Cross
all right
sail away
to the sign
ohh

From the book, the word is spoken
whispers from forgotten psalms
Gather all around the young ones
they will make us strong
Reach above your dreams of pleasure
given life to those who died
Look beyond your own horizons
sail the ship of signs

And it's the Sign of the Southern Cross
it's the Sign of the Southern Cross
Fade away, fade away
break the crystal ball
Fade away, fade away
I can't accept it anymore

On a real world, west of wonder
somewhere, nowhere all
There's a rainbow, see it shimmer
when the summer falls
From the book, the word is spoken
whispers from forgotten psalms
Gather all around the young ones
they will make us strong!

It's the Sign of the Southern Cross
It's the Sign of the Southern Cross

Don't live for pleasure
make life your treasure
Fade away!
Eight miles high, about to fall
and no one there to catch you
look for the sign, the time
the Sign of the Southern Cross, yeah

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Don't talk to strangers
Cause they're only there to do you harm
Don't write in starlight
Cause the words may come out real
Don't hide in doorways
You may find the key that opens up your soul
Don't go to Heaven cause it's really only Hell
Don't smell the flowers
They're an evil drug to make you lose your mind
Don't dream of women cause they'll only bring you down

Hey you you know me you've touched I'm real
I'm forever the one that lets you look and see and
Feel me I'm danger - I'm the stranger

I I'm darkness I'm anger I'm pain
I am master
The evil song you sing inside your brain
Drive you insane
Don't talk
Don't let them inside your mind yeah
Run away run away go

No no don't let them in your mind
Protect your soul

Don't dance in darkness
You may stumble and you're sure to fall
Don't write in starlight
Cause the words may come out real

Don't talk to strangers
Cause they're only there to make you sad
Don't dream of women
Cause they'll only bring you down

Yeah
Run away run away
