If they take away your song
You can finally hear the voices
Of the ones that don't belong
In the face of the rising wind
We all sing Gloria
Is there flame without fire
Most unlikely
If you're there when the walls come down
We all sing - warrior
Is there sight without sound
Most unlikely
But we got rock and roll
Rock and roll
Take me anywhere
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
Is there someone there
Rock and roll
On the edge of the last goodbye
We all sing - warrior
Ah the brave never die
Most unlikely
Hey, send your heroes of to war
But whisper in their ear
Never cross the song police
They can tell you what you're gonna hear - again
For the sake of the left behind
We all sing Gloria
Soon forgotten by time
So unlikely
Cause we got rock and roll
Rock and roll
Take you anywhere
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
Someone's always there
Rock and roll
Bring me anywhere
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
Someone's always there
Rock and roll
Rock and roll me, ah
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
Rock and roll
You can finally hear the voices
Of the ones that don't belong
In the face of the rising wind
We all sing Gloria
Is there flame without fire
Most unlikely

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
f I'm high on a hill
She will still be looking down at me
What does she see
That brings her closer every day to my heart
If I'm away from home
And think I'm all alone
She's there, somewhere
I look around to see
And looking back at me
She's there, beware
Creeping like a hungry cat
Seen it before
And I know it can mean that
* The lady's starstruck she's nothing but bad luck
The lady's starstruck running after me
The lady's starstruck she's nothing but bad luck, yeah, yeah
I could fly to the moon
But she'd soon find a way to be there
I never knew for a while
That a smile made 'em really care
She wants a souvenir
To everyone it's clear
She's hooked, one look
She wants a photograph
And everybody laughs
But not me, 'cause I see
She's creeping like a hungry cat
Seen it before and I know it can mean that
*
I used to be a game
Now I can't repeat my name at all
She seems to believe that
I never can refuse her call
She wants a souvenir
To everyone it's clear
She's hooked, one look
She wants a photograph
And everybody laughs
But not me, 'cause I see
She's creeping like a hungry cat
Seen it before and I know it can mean that
* x 2
And back of a tree
I'm looking back at me
Blind and off my state
I've just got to beware
The lady's starstruck
Yes, she's bad luck, bad luck
She will still be looking down at me
What does she see
That brings her closer every day to my heart
If I'm away from home
And think I'm all alone
She's there, somewhere

And looking back at me

Creeping like a hungry cat

Hanging from the cobwebs in your mind
It looks like a long, long way to fall
No one ever told me life was kind
I guess I never heard it, never heard it all
Living in a world of make believe
I can hide behind what's real
But wearing your emotions on your sleeve
And they all know what you feel
And here it comes again
Straight through the heart
Straight through the heart
Oh, never tell a secret with your eyes
It's the eyes that let you down
Tell a little truth with many lies
It's the only way I've found
Oh here it comes again
Straight through the heart
Straight through the heart
Shout to the wind
How can you hurt me this way
Oh once it begins
It looks like it's coming to stay
Hanging from the cobwebs in your mind
It looks like a long, long way to fall
No one ever told me life was kind
I guess I never heard it, never heard it all, no!
But here it comes again
Straight through the heart
Straight through the heart
Straight through the heart
Here it comes again
Straight through the heart
In the middle of the heart
Now don't stand still, they'll get you
Right through your heart
And here it comes, here it comes again
Straight through the heart
It looks like a long, long way to fall
No one ever told me life was kind
I guess I never heard it, never heard it all
Living in a world of make believe

And here it comes, here it comes again
Straight through the heart
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
It's the same old song
You've gotta be somewhere at sometime
They never let you fly
It's like broken glass
You get cut before you see it
So open up your eyes
You've got desire
So let it out
You've got the fire
Stand up and shout-shout
You've got wings of steel
But they never really move you
You only seem to crawl
You've been nailed to the wheel
But never really turning
You know you've got to want it all
You've got desire
So let it out
You've got the fire
Stand up and shout
You are the strongest chain
And not just some reflection
So never hide again
You are the driver
You own the road
You are the fire go on explode
You've got desire
So let it out
You've got the power
Stand up and shout!
You've gotta be somewhere at sometime
They never let you fly
It's like broken glass
You get cut before you see it
So open up your eyes
You've got desire
So let it out
You've got the fire

When there's lightning
You know it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
I cry up a mountain
I feel it dancing in the light
It was cold, lost my hold
To the shadows of the night
No sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
A Rainbow in the Dark
Do your demons
Do they ever let you go
When you've tried do they hide deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You're just a picture
Just an image caught in time
We're a lie you and I
We walk on without a ride
There's no sign of the morning coming
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
When I see lightning
You know it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found
Feel the magic
I feel it floating in the air
But it's fear and you'll hear it calling you beware
Look Out!
There's no sight of the morning coming
There's no sign of the day
You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow
Like a Rainbow in the Dark Yeah . . .
You're a Rainbow in the Da a a a a ark
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
No sign of the morning
Just a Rainbow in the Dark
You know it always brings me down
Cause it's free and I see that it's me
Who's lost and never found

Just a Rainbow in the Dark
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
I was wondering when you'd get to that one....
So here's my favorite of his.....Again.....
High noon
Oh I'd sell my soul for water
Nine years' worth
Of breakin' my back
There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard
See how he glides
Why he's lighter than air
Oh I see his face
Where is your star
Is it far, Is it far, is it far
When do we leave
I believe, yes, I believe
* In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
So many die
We built a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
Just to see him fly
Don't know why
Now where do we go
Hot wind moving fast across the desert
We feel that our time has arrived
The world spins while we put his wing together
A tower of stone to take him straight to the sky
Oh I see his face
Where is your star
It is far, is it far, is it far
When do we leave, yeah
I believe, I believe
*
All eyes see the figure of the wizard
As he climbs to the top of the world
No sound as he falls instead of rising
Time standing still
Then there's blood on the sand
Oh I see his face
Where was your star
Was it far, was it far
When did we leave
We believe, we believe, we believe
In the heat and rain
With whips and chains
To see him fly
So many die
We built a tower of stone
With out flesh and bone
To see him fly
But why, it don't rain
With all our chains,
Did so many die
Just to see him fly
Look at my flesh and bone
Now look, look, look, look
Look at this tower of stone
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home
Coming home, I'm coming home
Time is standing still
He gave me back my will
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Going home
I'm going home
My eyes are bleeding
And my heart is weeping
We still hope, we still hope, oh
Take me back
He gave me back my will
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Going home

And my heart is weeping
We still hope, we still hope, oh
Take me back, take me back

Your favorite?
I think that's the third time I've posted that (RitD) here, but it's just such a great song...
You've ridden on a carousel
So you know the feeling
As the ring slips through your fingers
Sometimes you justify it
But there's the sword
And you're bleeding once again
Before you're in a corner
Can't crawl away
Here's a way to save you
You gotta push
Get out of my way and push
You can turn the wheel
Push
One more push
You're master of the broken heart
And so you know the feeling
As your soul starts going under
Sometimes you rectify it
Then out of the blue
The hammer falls again
Before you're in the water
Can't sail away
Here's a way to save you
You gotta push
Break the body down
Oh push
Out of my way I'll push
You better push
You gotta push
Hands against the wall
And push
Out of my way we'll push
You can turn the wheel
Go on and push
Push
Push
Push
Push

Yeah, Stargazer (which I've prolly posted 4 or 5 times) really kicks butt. I remember the first time I heard it on the radio I heard Ritchie dragging his pick down the fretboard and that great drum riff that starts the song off, and I scrambled to jam a cassette into my boom box so I could record it. Still think it's one of the best songs Dio (or Rainbow) has done. Put it this way, it's like a metal Kashmir.
Then, of course, Holy Diver came out and completely blew me away......
If your circle stays unbroken
Then you're a lucky man
Cause it never, never, never has for me
In the palace of the virgin
Lies the chalice of the soul
And it's likely you might find the answer there
She had fourteen years of teenage tears
And never a helping hand
She had fourteen more of rain before
She saw the sight of land
She was a photograph just ripped in half
A smile inside a frown
And the the light, the answer right
Inside her coming down
I can go away
I can leave here
I can be invisible
He was just eighteen and in-between
A lady and a man
His daddie's girl in momma's world
And that was when he ran
You know the word confused has been abused
But that's just what he was
And then the spark inside the dark
The answer came because it said
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
Well I grew up quick and I felt the kick
Of life upon a stage
So I bought the book and took a fast look
At just the very last page
It was a single word that I'd just heard
From the two that came before
The only way to realle stay
Is to walk right out the door
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
You can go away
You can leave here
You can be invisible
You can go away
Lord you know it's right to leave here
So I just become invisible

Stargazer has as close to a permanent position as I will allow in my all-time top favorite five songs ever. (The list changes depending mainly on my mood but usually also includes Deep Purple's Shield and BÖC's Astronomy.)
In the land of the lost horizon
Where the queen lies dark and cold
When the stars won't shine, then the story's told
When the world was milk and honey
And the magic was strong and true
Then the strange ones came and the people knew
That the chains are on
In the land of no tomorrow
Where you pray just to end each day
And your life just slowly melts away
Each day you hear the sand as it moves and whispers
Come and sail on my golden sea
Maybe one day you'll be just like me... and that's free
But still your chains are on
You've seen them walking on the water
You've seen flying through the sky
They were frightening in the darkness
They had rainbows in their eyes
When the world was milk and honey
And the magic was strong and true
The the strange ones came and the people knew
That the chains are on
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
Oh Hell yeah!
In no paticular order (at the moment at least)....
Stargazer
The Wizard-Sabbath
Astronomy
Ten Years Gone
The Sentinel-Priest
But I've really been hitting Dio hard the last month or so. One of the three greatest voices in rock as far as I'm concerned.
We're a ship without a storm
The cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness that it needs, yeah
We're a laugh without a tear
The hope without the fear
We are coming - home
We're off to the witch
We may never never never come home
But the magic that we'll feel
Is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
The throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way is down
We don't come alone
We are fire we are stone
We're the hand that writes
Then quickly moves away
Chorus:
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
Two eyes from the east
It's the angel or the beast
And the answer lies between
The good and bad
We search for the truth
We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase
Is worth the pain
Repeat chorus
We're off to the witch
We may never never never come home
But the magic that we'll
Is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
The throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way you go is down
Repeat chorus
In no paticular order (at the moment at least)....
Stargazer
The Wizard-Sabbath
Astronomy
Ten Years Gone
The Sentinel-Priest
But I've really been hitting Dio hard the last month or so. One of the three greatest voices in rock as far as I'm concerned.
We're a ship without a storm
The cold without the warm
Light inside the darkness that it needs, yeah
We're a laugh without a tear
The hope without the fear
We are coming - home
We're off to the witch
We may never never never come home
But the magic that we'll feel
Is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
The throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way is down
We don't come alone
We are fire we are stone
We're the hand that writes
Then quickly moves away
Chorus:
We'll know for the first time
If we're evil or divine
We're the last in line
We're the last in line
Two eyes from the east
It's the angel or the beast
And the answer lies between
The good and bad
We search for the truth
We could die upon the tooth
But the thrill of just the chase
Is worth the pain
Repeat chorus
We're off to the witch
We may never never never come home
But the magic that we'll
Is worth a lifetime
We're all born upon the cross
The throw before the toss
You can release yourself
But the only way you go is down
Repeat chorus

Well, that pretty much has to be followed with:
Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean
Gotta get away
Holy Diver
Got!
Shiny diamonds
Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue
Something is coming for you
Race for the morning
You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light
Oh we will pray it's all right
Gotta get away-get away
Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel
Holy Diver
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid
Jump on the tiger
You can feel his heart but you know he's mean
Some light can never be seen
Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me
Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean
Gotta get away
Holy Diver
Got!

Oh we will pray it's all right
Gotta get away-get away
Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel
Holy Diver
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid
Jump on the tiger
You can feel his heart but you know he's mean
Some light can never be seen
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?
We just need to get RJD to join the Watch so he can serenade us...

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.
Out of the blue
and into the black
You pay for this,
but they give you that
And once you're gone,
you can't come back
When you're out of the blue
and into the black.
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten
Is this the story
of Johnny Rotten?
It's better to burn out
'cause rust never sleeps
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten.
Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture

If I had a dollar bill for every time I'd been wrong,
I'd be a self-made millionaire and you'd still be gone.
So hand me down my best dress shoes and my best dress shirt,
'Cause I'm going out in style, to cover the hurt.
All I want to do all day is spend it in bed,
But that's bad for the body, and even worse for my head.
So I'll try and find a place where noone will ask me a thing,
It'll help me to forget, and help me to sing.
'Cause now, I'm drunk again, the means to my end,
And I'm scared of myself.
'Cause now, it's all the same, the faces and names,
And I'm scared of myself, again.
Have you ever wanted to wake up from your dreaming,
It's scared you so bad you couldn't control your heart or your breathing.
Well walk out the door, with me on the floor, you don't care how I'm feeling,
I guess your weak and tired and frightened man is no longer appealing.
'Cause now, I'm drunk again, the means to my end,
And I'm scared of myself.
'Cause now, it's all the same, the faces and names,
And I'm scared of myself, again.
Some people have a gift of reaching right into your soul,
And finding the hole, and making it bigger.
Then sometimes I think I catch it back in cynical smiles,
And in a short while, you'll be my heart's gravedigger.
Well there's not much I can do.
'Cause I'm at the mercy of you.
So baby I guess we're through.
'Cause now, I'm drunk again, the means to my end,
And I'm scared of myself.
'Cause now, it's all the same, the faces and names,
And I'm scared of myself.
'Cause now, it's all the same, the faces and names,
And I'm scared of myself.
So go, walk out the door, you don't believe me no more,
And I'm scared of myself, again.
If I had a dollar bill for every time I'd been wrong,
I'd be a self-made millionaire and I wouldn't be singing...

Breeders - When I Was A Painter Lyrics
In side lakes of corduroy I've been
In side lakes of quarterly i've been
Heard stories of velveteen
Heard stories of air velveteen
Twenty hours later I fill the room
Twenty hours later i fill the room
With bad sex and bad TV
With bad sex and bad tv
Go, go, go [2x]
Go, go, go *2
When I was a painter I painted you well
When i was a painter i painted you well
Too bad I have to die
Too bad i have to die
You brought the essentials, perversion appeal
You brought the essentials, perversion appeal
And many lovers at one time
And many lovers at one time
Go, go, go [2x]
Go, go, go *2
Now, now
On and on, on, on
In side lakes of corduroy I've been
In side lakes of quarterly i've been
Heard stories of velveteen
Heard stories of air velveteen
Twenty hours later I fill the room
Twenty hours later i fill the room
With bad sex and bad TV
With bad sex and bad tv
Go, go, go *2
Go, go, go *2
Now, now
On and on, on, on
In side lakes of corduroy I've been

"Moonage Daydream"
I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut,
you're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words
Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!
Don't fake it baby, lay the real thing on me
The church of man, love
Is such a holy place to be
Make me baby, make me know you really care
Make me jump into the air
Keep your 'lectric eye on me babe
Put your ray gun to my head
Press your space face close to mine, love
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah!
Freak out, far out, in out
I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you
I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you
Keep your mouth shut,
you're squawking like a pink monkey bird
And I'm busting up my brains for the words

Hey...oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me, as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn
Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything?
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll ever be...yeah...
Uh huh...uh huh...ooh...
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me, as her body once did

When the summer night has changed its warmer breezes to the icy cold of silent winter freezes, will you be there?
When the flowers in the windows of the neighbors start to bow their frozen heads and to leave us, will I see you there?
Will you stand by me against the cold night,
Or are you afraid of the ice?
Afraid of the ice?
Ice.
When the waters of the roaring ocean bring a chilling feeling and the beach is closing, are you near me?
When the cloudy skies are blocking out the sun and suddenly your nose has begun to run, do you still hear me?
Will you stand by me against the cold night,
Or are you afraid of the ice?
Afraid of the ice?
Ice.
Will you stand by me against the cold
Will you stand by me against the cold
Will you stand by me against the cold

Comin' down the mountain
One of many children
Everybody has
Their own opinion
Everybody has
Their own opinion
Holding it back
Hurts so bad
Jumping out of my flesh
And I said
Cash in!
Cash in now honey
Cash in now
Cash in now baby
Cash in now honey
Cash in miss smith
Cash in now baby!
I was comin down the mountain
Met a child she had pin eyes
We had the same opinion
Had the same opinion
She was holding it back
It hurts do bad
Jumping out of her flesh
And I said

Such a drag to want something sometime
One thing leads to another I know
Was a time wanted you for mine
Nobody knew
You arrived like a day
And passed like a cloud
I made a wish, I said it out loud
Out loud in a crowd
Everybody heard
twas the talk of the town
Its not my place to know what you feel
Id like to know but why should i?
Who were you then, who are you now?
Common labourer by night, by day highbrow
Back in my room I wonder, then i
Sit on the bed, look at the sky
Up in the sky
Clouds rearrange
Like the talk of the town
Maybe tomorrow, maybe someday
Maybe tomorrow, maybe someday
Youve changed your place in this world
Youve changed your place in this world
Oh but its hard to live by the rules
I never could and still never do
The rules and such never bothered you
You call the shots and they follow
I watch you still from a distance then go
Back to my room, you never know
I want you, I want you but now
Whos the talk of the town?
One thing leads to another I know
