Excellent post, Fist. Reloaded had some excellent elements: the Merovingian and the Architect for starters.

All of our lives, we have fought this war. Tonight I believe we can end it. Tonight is not an accident. There are no accidents. We have not come here by chance. I do not believe in chance. When I see three objectives, three captains, three ships. I do not see coincidence, I see providence. I see purpose. I believe it our fate to be here. It is our destiny. I believe this night holds for each and every one of us, the very meaning of our lives.
Great stuff!
Morpheus has one line in Reloaded (an exchange with the commander in Zion) that is among my favourite film quotes, not because it's dramatic or full of badassness (it isn't), but because it makes sense to me. This little exchange encapsulates Morpheus' character for me, and it resonates with me for reasons I'm not sure I can understand, let alone explain. Anyway, from memory it goes something like this:

Commander: "Damn it, Morpheus, not everyone believes what you believe."
Morpheus: "My beliefs do not require them to."

Agree with Fist, I loved the first Matrix and Reloaded was great as well. Revolutions, however - well, they really got way off track.

Yes, CJ, that is an excellent moment for Morpheus! I'm kinda embarrassed that I didn't include it.

Yeah, you all bring up some good scenes in Reloaded that I forgot. And I guess I did enjoy Reloaded when it came out, now that I remember. But there were a bunch of good scenes and lines in it. And at that point, there still was at least some hope that the series hadn't gone off the deep end.

I think my views have been skewed too much by the crap-fest that was Revolutions.

I'm much less hostile to the Matrix sequels now, especially Revolutions, than I was the first time around. I had really hated Revolutions, but over time I've come to better understand what the Wachowskis were trying to do - with that film and with the whole series.

That said, there's no doubt that the brothers ticked off a whole lotta people with the very dark 3rd film. They crammed a lot of stuff in there that went beyond their ability - or the ability of cinema - to explain coherently to an audience. If it feels like you need a philosophy degree to comprehend all the symbolism packed into the movie, then it's not hard to understand why many filmgoers (like me) felt they were being talked down to. Now I've come admire the sheer ambition of what they were attempting, but the Wachowskis bit off more than they could chew, or more than an audience was willing to chew.

Revolutions was my favorite Matrix.

I just like telling people that. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

That was certainly a major drawback to the movie. ;)

So, are the Matrix movies overrated then? ;)

Yes, the matrix movies are WAY overrated. The first one was good, the others sucked ass.

Ooh Jenn!

You're in trouble when Fist finds this out! ;)

The first one was good. I rented the second one, but the dvd was so scratched up I couldn't watch it and I never bothered to get another copy.

Damelon, I think you have to see for yourself whether or not the Matrix sequels are overrated...now did you want the blue pill or the red pill, or the Prozac?

Well, exactly. Keanu and Carrie-Ann get nude to film the Most Boring Sex Scene Ever Made, while Monica teases all us Matrix geeks.

Heheheh....well I am entitled to my opinion as he is entitled to his....and I stand by what I said, the latter Matrix movies were utter shite. While I am here I want to add that I thought Titanic was a load of crap and one of the worst overrated movies EVER. I would also like the two hours of my life back that I wasted watching Brad Pitt cry like a pathetic whiny ass in Troy. At one point in the film I turned to my friend Terry and said, "Keerist will someone please f***ing make Brad Pitt stop f***ing crying already?"

All I meant MM is that this is an overrated movies thread but all most of the last twenty or so posts have been about is saying how great the Matrix movies are.

Cail did seem to stick a stick in the hornet's nest though on this one. :)

Honestly, I think the entire Matrix trilogy is brilliant.

Well, if you must have the wrong opinion, at least tell us why.

;)

Have you read the Iliad? Achilles was actually like that! 8O  Brad did it right. But he also did a great job of being the freakin' baddest fighter in the world. Even against the superb Hector. I love those fights! :D The huge battles were great too.

Are you suggesting a thread about how bad something is should not include opposing views? At the Watch?!?? I don't think so!

I really need to see the third again before I can truly say I think it was as inferior to the first two as I remember it being. It did have its good points. But my twp biggest problems are:
-No face shielding of any sort on those big-ass suits. Duh.
-Seraph wasn't nearly as cool. I wanted more of an explanation of him, and I wanted to see him kick serious ass!

(And I'm quite sure that's the first time I've used ass twice in a single post. Well, three times now...)

Well, not sure about the overrated part as far as Troy is concerned considering it got terrible reviews and left theaters rather quickly. I will nominate it for one of the worst epic films ever made. That seems more appropriate.
