I'm just trying to find someone who has read it already.
I don't know this place. Who runs it or created it? Have they read it?

It's not published yet. SRD is still in the process of writing and trying to find a publisher. Release date is either late 2004 or early 2005.

So what you are telling me is that the person who created Kevin's Watch hasn't read it yet? That no one has?

What she's telling you is that it does not exist yet. At least not beyond a draft that SRD is likely still editing.

What if I presently have a copy?

No reason for some of you to get upset. I was merely asking. There are in fact copies of it out there on editors' desks as we speak, as Steve tries to find the series a publishing home.
I just wanted some feedback about the book from someone who has read it.. and perhaps someone I could talk to about it.

awww, no one's upset Ard

You asked and I answered is all.

Neither Vain or Jay or anyone here has a copy of Runes. (if they did and are hiding it from me there would be BIG BIG trouble!) As far as editors and the like go, I'm sure they do, but we here don't have access to all that.
Welcome to the Watch!!

As far as I've heard he hasn't even finished it yet...

...maybe, I don't know...in Aug. he said he hadn't but might b done by now...odd...that could surely move the publication date up a bit. Maybe I should email him, nah I don't want to bother him...

He is quite the secretive sort...

Just letting everyone one know you've met 'im eh Danlo? That you live near him. That your part of the "in fans"...!!! Grrr, I'm just jealous.

I assure you, it is finished. I have very concrete proof.
I don't think it will move the publishing date up at all. It still must be edited, which takes upwards to two months. Then they have to hire an artist, the cover art must be created including the map, the book must be layed out by the art department, etc. The marketing engine must start up somewhere in the middle there, which takes time to prepare. It is a pretty long process from start to finish, the writing being the first part.
Let's prey they get it to us by the end of 2004. Most Del Rey authors send their manuscripts in and it is 8-12 months after that before the hardcover release. I know Del Rey may not publish Steve's new series, but I a hoping it will stay where these great books started.

He said there was no way he was going back to Del Rey and I don't think he's very happy w/Spectra/Bantam either for how hard they pushed him on the Gap Saga. Care to tell us how on earth you became privy to a copy? Are u an Editor? Work for a publishing house?
And Hi, I'm not part of any "In-crowd" just fortunate 2 have had the honor...

I am merely in the know, danlo. I spend a lot of time with authors, readers, and true fans. I've met Steve only once, two years ago and do not know him outside of that meeting. You are lucky to be so near him when he does venture into the public eye locally.
He will inevitably publish with whichever house offers the best combined deal financially and creatively, and I hope he doesn't hold ill-will towards any particular publishing house since all of them have essentially new people at their helms since he last wrote in the genre. I see Tor making a strong deal, so we shall see. Like I said, I am privy to Del Rey where the series started. I like uniformity.

OK, now I
know u're George R. R. Martin!!!!

Well we're all readers and super fans here but I can't think of any1 on the board, with the possible exception of maybe Romeo or Mouseglove, that might be privy 2 such info...

If only I were George Martin! I'd be wealthy! Then I could read all day long with no interruption and not finish my series in a timely fashion. *grins broadly*
Hierachy, I haven't read Runes of the Earth -- not yet at least. I came on this website in hopes of finding someone who has to discuss it with.
