Ahh! So that was a little moomin! I <3 the Moomintrolls.

Vraith-you know, you could write one too.
We could use another poll thread to determine the winner...

Although maybe StrongBad's already pretty much done the piece you would have wanted to write!!

I finished mine. Having someone look it over to decide if it crosses any lines too much.

Dying to post it though, (hahah, get it? Dying?) if only so I can return to my regularly-scheduled side-conversations without annoying vraith too much. Speaking of which...
nothing says "death is with us" like interpretive dance.
:haha: :haha: :haha:
I think you are the Watch's "free-rage snark," though, vraith.

Ananda- I know, vraith has totally re-invented his image on the Watch! Way less intimidating than before. (his image, at least!)
Of course, I'm sure you're wondering if he has a new 'do to go with it!
I guess that before, he had like ...a human head for a mohawk... don't remember exactly what that avatar looked like... but most any hairdo is less intimidating than that!

hihi I wouldn't quite characterise him as ever being intimidating! But, the mohawk sounds just fine. I used to go out with a guy who had one, but then his was not made of human heads.

But, I do love the new pic he has. Did you draw it yourself, Vraith? it's very cute.

As a counterpoint to one of SRD's brilliantly-portrayed selfless main character in one of his short stories, [1] I give you… THIS GUY:

Mike, Gabe and I are about to pull off the prank of the century, could be of the millennia, given what I know…
This grave-robbing is gonna be fr-ckin' famous, I'm tellin' you. And we're doing it in broad daylight. How's that for ballsy, y'know?
This tomb is LOADED, man. Gold and jewels are complete cr-p compared to what WE'RE going for today.
This is gonna be monumental. Watershed. I can't believe I got the call to be in on this, actually.
I bet someone "up on high" noticed my past performance record, and was like, "We need this guy for the job."

Okay, we're in the tomb now… this body's been in here for like DAYS.[2] Disgusting. I can't believe they even walk around with these things on before they're even expired. Whatever.

Apparently the sister of "the deceased" is whining about something. Okay, wow, she's actually trying to pin the blame on the Boss or some sh--.[3] Humans always asking their "what if?" questions and cr-p… So the chick is talking and she just SAAAAID, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day."[4] So she knows that - that should be the end of the story. So what the… I mean, that's not good enough for her? So she's gotta wait a few decades till she's over the hill and kicks the old bucket herself and joins him. What's the big deal? I mean, in the grand scheme of things, it'll be no time till she cashes in her chips… I just don't get humans.

Wait, Gabe just said the Boss was crying… what? Okay, I think Gabe's lying or mistaken - I didn't hear anything unusual! (for people mourning, at least) I can't see what the Boss would think the big deal is; I mean, he knows all about The Big Sleep. Actually.. wait… I hadn't really thought about this, but the Boss has really been acting differently these past couple of years. It's like he's one of THEM.[6] Maybe he's weak too. Gettin' soft. Guess that's what happens when you walk around for too long in a big sack of flesh that's gonna assume room temperature some day!

Oh well. We ARE gonna have quite the audience out there. People have been hanging out with this guy's family ever since he bit the dust. Trying comfort them and whatever.[7] Okay, that giant stone rolling in its track is fr-cken loud. But it's our cue! Gabe's telling me to get ahold of this guy, and… oh, I hear the Boss this time:
"Lazarus, come forth!"

Appendix I - English-language Idioms.
"bit the dust" - died
"over the hill" - old
"kick the bucket" - to die
"the big sleep" - death
"cash in ones chips" - to die
"assume room temperature" - to die

Appendix II - References.
(Spoilered because I think it would be more fun to not know until the end.)
Spoiler
1. "Unworthy of the Angel," short story by Stephen R. Donaldson.
2. The Gospel of John, The Holy Bible, chapter 11, verse 17.
3. Ibid, chapter 11, verse 21.
4. Ibid, chapter 11, verse 24.
5. Ibid, chapter 11, verse blah.
6. The Letter to the Philippians, chapter 2, some verse.
7. Do I have to write "The Gospel of John" out here again?, chapter 11, verse something.
8. Ibid, chapter 11, verse i-dont-wanna-look-it-up.

In honor of Super Tuesday, only with, unfortunately fewer candidates, fortunately smarter and more interesting ones, the winner in a close race 50.2 to 49.8, with all precincts reporting is:

Ananda. KUDOS [man you cracked me up]

Linna simply couldn't overcome the super-PAC [photo array casting] advantage.

Congrats, Ananda! You cracked me up too... I kept thinking of one or two of the lines from it at random times thoroughout the day, and laughing.

Thanks vraith, I had fun with this round!

Neat, you can tell Mrs. Vraith we like it! :D

Awesome, how come she gets to do that?

yay! thanks. :D I'll come up with a new one this week. Though, we need to get more people participating.

Ad, yeah, I like the rough edge of the new image, too. the fact that the paper is off centre and the image itself is pixelated and colour levels are all off works to its benefit.

It took me some time to both remember I was going to do a contest and to also think of one. I know all of the people who participate in this were on the edge of their seats waiting for the next set of rules- sorry to keep you both waiting!

----
Here is my Inspiration for this contest. It takes a story and massively alters it, adding new characters or totally changing existing characters. So, here's your assignment.

You and a fancy hollywood producer are out by his pool and you are looking at the screenplay for Lord Foul's Bane. It obviously needs some changes to make it marketable! The main character is what? The producer looks over the story outline and shakes his head and even goes so far as to take his fat cat cigar from his mouth. Explaining he says, "I'm doing this for my brother in law." He points at you and says, "Woik your magic on this thing, kiddo. Give me that box-office gold." He laughs a little and then adds, "I'm talkin' summer blockbuster here or you're fired. No pressure." He then pats you on the bottom and smiles, putting the cigar back in his mouth as he leans back in his pool chair indicating that he is done with you. On your way out, his assistant gives you a marketing research report on things people respond favourably to. She frowns at you as you leave.

So, take any scene from Lord Foul's Bane and make it box office gold, baby. You can add any stage directions, setting or cast notes, explosions, car chases, cast images, soundtrack, etc. that you like. Just don't make it too long.

Deadline is 25 march end of day.
EDIT: Deadline pushed back for Vraith and Linna

if some fat dude with a cigar pats my bottom, I promise I'm gonna make him understand "foul," up close and personal.
I love the idea, though...I hope a nearby library has a copy, cuz mine is 1000 miles away...and I hope peeps play, cuz it's a good one...
EDITEd to add indigo color, cuz I stole the idea from Hashi and can't give it up...though soon I might switch from "mood indigo" to "red rain"
