That's a new one. Maybe she wants you to make her an omelet.

There is a certain logic at work here. They bring you a mouse, you don't want the mouse. Maybe you don't fully appreciate the mouse, since you couldn't catch one yourself. Humans eat eggs, right? So they bring you an egg, but that gets rejected too. So they bring you a larger egg. They must think you're really fussy.

Or that I'm a real bastard for taking their toys away.

What amazes me is that she must have climbed a tree, taken the egg from the nest, and carried it home in her mouth, all without breaking it.

You know thats pretty darn impressive. You should praise her cleverness and her Olympian agility. You try climbing a tree while maintaining the physical integrity of a raw egg lol .. thats pretty spectacular

And did it all without opposable thumbs!! You should be so clever!

That is pretty impressive. Maybe she was hoping to hatch a little friend (or snack).

I am glad mine don't bring me presents, though my youngest expects me to thank her when she knocks stuff off my desk. It started as a joke, but now I get a reproachful look if I don't acknowledge her productivity.

Haha, you should see her chimneying up the inside of my cupboard, with her back jammed against the cupboard door, and her claws digging into the GF's clothes to lever herself up with.

She's also starting to get a bit chubby though. Think it's approaching diet time for her.

Av- I was thinking the same thing about your cat carrying the egg without breaking it!
Did you get to see it in her mouth at all?
(I mean... I really can't think of any other way she'd accomplish it, but... it would be stinking cool to actually SEE.)
Or just find it presented on the step when you left/returned-to your place?

Haha .. Sorus we had a kitty that used to play the piano.

Every time he wanted your attention he bound up onto the keys and flick them with his paws. If you dared ignore him hed look at you and then look at the photo frames on top of the piano, give you a little time to reconsider your position, and if you didnt stop what you were doing to come get him, flick them off their resting place onto the ground .. he would do this methodically .. giving you what he deemed was sufficient time for you to react and respond.

Cats delight in bringing their owners gifts .. one brought a huntsmen spider .. .. huge bastards .. and dropped it on my husbands head when he was stretched out on the floor in front of the open fire. The cat could not understand the lack of appreciation.

Like you we had a bunny that was litter trained and lived in doors. We would on occassion let her romp around the lounge. You could call her and shed skip over to you and jump on your lap for much appreciated cuddles. She also loved rum ... it turned out

Where would we be without animals in our lives.

That would be a sight to see though .. cats are absolutely hilarious so full of personality.

Didn't see her carrying this one, she was just batting it around on the hallway carpet.

The last one was stuck to her claw, as she'd managed to make a small hole in the shell, but I saw her carrying the first one she brought in. (This was the 3rd.)

I wish the little buggers left them on the step...they bring them right in...lizards, birds, mice, rats, bats. I hate it, really I do.

Sky, yeah, the GF is not impressed by it. Penny is banned from her cupboard now. (And if she opens it, Penny comes running in case she can sneak in. )

What a very clever kitty - coming up with the not having opposable thumbs work around

Last time I was actively trying to adopt a cat, I was set on getting a polydacytl. (With the extra toes that sometimes make them look like they have thumbs. So cute.) I got chosen by a cat with the average quantity of toes, but she also has the ability to undo any latch after watching you once. (Be careful what you wish for, I guess.) Turkish Facehuggers are smart, and they get into everything when they're bored. (Don't think she'd be good at carrying eggs though - she's a good climber and a good jumper, but a total klutz on the descent - I don't think an egg would survive.)

Anyway, she could probably Skype with Penny and teach her how to open the cupboard pretty quickly.

Haha, my cupboard doors are mirrored sliding doors...quite heavy and no latch. I think she'd be outta luck.

What a clever kitty .. undoing latches .. shed make a good cat burglar

Our Fred figured out years ago how to open bedroom doors in our house. He jumps up and catches the knob between his paws, and the combination of the rotation that places on the knob and his weight against the door pops the latch and opens the door.

After he did this to my mom during a visit, she came up with a prevention. She hung her handbag on the inside knob, which impeded Fred's rotation of the outside knob enough that he couldn't pop the door, just bounce off it...and try again. Persistent kitteh!

Mom passed in 2005, so that gives you some idea how long Fred's been doing this stunt.

I don't know - she's pretty strong. If she could get a paw wedged in, she might be able to force it.
