Loremaster wrote:Update: I just watched The Impossible Planet, and it may indeed be one of the best Doctor Who stories ever (well, it's the first part). Absolutely outstanding.
I totally agree. I just wiki'd "The Impossible Planet" and saw some points that I missed while watching it. I hadn't actually seen the title of the episode when I called it Black Hole.

The feel of the episode reminded me of "Event Horizon", although I think this could potentially be far, far better.

And here was me wondering if they were going to bring back "The Master" as the ultimate super-villain...

(Is that a spoiler? I'll edit if it is.)

It'll be interesting to see how the second episode pans out.

PS Yes I'm an Aussie. I hadn't realised you were too until I read some of your posts in the Tank just now.

Not to mention that red-headed dweeb that played the Sixth Doctor in the original.
Careful, Colin Baker and Donaldson are very close friends. :)

I just saw the new episodes on Friday on Scifi. Lore, I think he is adorable! I suppose it is all a matter of taste. I like both of the new doctors. They are just different, but that is the point of the show. I have only seen "The Christmas Invasion" and "New Earth," but I enjoyed them both very much. I recorded them and spent the weekend watching them over and over... Alex joined me. Even Nick, who up to now had no interest, enjoyed it and said, "He is goofy!" lol I bought the first series on dvd and we watched it yesterday too and Nick thought that doctor was goofy too.

I have not seen any of these... am only familiar with the Drs-Who from about 1990 on back. Have there ever been any female Dr.s?

No, no women doctors. I don't think they can jump gender. Well... except when Cassandra went into this newest doctor lol. That was pretty funny.

They would have to be female Time Lords! Romana was one. Now the Doctor is the only one left though. I have to wonder, because Romana was left in E space. Maybe he isn't the only one left. Hmmm....

I've been pondering that as well. They brought back K-9 and Sara-Jane Smith, why not Romana?

I agree, I enjoyed these two episodes myself, and don't understand the "Too ruthless" or "arrogant" complaints myself, based upon these two episodes.

A future companion:
Spoiler
Freema Agyeman, the uber-babe who had the thingy ripped out of her head by the Doctor in the penultimate episode of the Tennant series, the Doctor then saying she was already dead, will feature in the next season. Apparently her physical resemblance to that character will be explained.

Woo hoo! CBC has finally begun airing the new season! Just watched New Earth. I have no problem with Tennant (so far). I'm just happy to have Dr. Who on my viewing schedule again. :D

Sorry, but I find Tennant's portrayal uncomfortable. He comes off more as a time traveller from the 21st century than an alien time lord. Listen to his silly pop culture quotes throughout the season (like the Kylie Minogue one that comes up). Plus, the drunk scene in The Girl in The Fireplace gets my vote as the worst scene ever filmed in Dr Who history. No exaggeration.

Weren't Jelly Babies a Pop Culture fad at the time of Tom Baker?

Shortly afterwards, I know Jelly Bellies (and Gummy Bears) became so in the States.

I dont know that, but it doesnt age the show. But regardless, Tennant quotes pop culture all the time, which ages the show. I want to watch an alien time lord not watch some person quote Minogue, the lion king, etc every episode.

My mate's just finished filming a few over-nighters as an extra for the next series of DR Who. Computer generated monsters this time - which I think is kindof going against the spirit of the show.

He's done a couple of extras in Touchwood, a new spinoff from Dr Who, which I believe is starting this week some time on BBC. (The Earth defense force set up by Queen Victoria the werewolf!)

To be fair, they used heaps of CGI Daleks and Cybermen last two seasons.

I'll take your word for that, LM! I've only seen bits and pieces.

But I agree with you, anyway; I prefer the costumes to CGI.
