I disagree with Connery as Mhoram (too old), but he might be good as High Lord Prothall...

Since this is just fantasy anyway......

Covenant: Harrison Ford (from about 1992)
Foamfollower: CG (Vain too)
Elena could be Kate Winslet

but I think it would probably be best to find obscure actors for most of the parts. someone you dont look at and say "yeah, he was great in xxxx"

Sorry if any of these have already been named...

I'm not a huge fan of his, but I thought Russell Crowe would be a very good choice for Covenant.

Other thoughts...
Linden - Jodie Foster, maybe
Foamfollower - Michael Clarke Duncan (wouldn't have to try too hard to make him look large--and he's a great actor *grin*)
Elena - Famke Janssen
Mhoram - ahh... I know he may be too old, but Anthony Hopkins would be great. He can have such a kind face... but turn dangerous very quickly. Kevin Spacey might be nice, too. Gee, this is getting expensive.
Foul - Tim Curry might be fun, if he played it seriously.
Hile Troy - I thought Michael Ironside would be fantastic in this role.
Bannor - I truly have no idea. I can't think of anyone young enough to be *skilled* enough to play this role. I thought of Tommy Lee Jones, but I think he's too old...
Prothall - Ian McKellen

Russel Crowe is too plump-faced IMHO for TC. Now Harrison Ford like he was in Blade Runner or The Fugitive - he would've been good.

CG would be 'computer generated' and I hate that - just look at the Hulk and that stoopid creature in the Star Wars films, O.K so Gollum was excellent, but you are really going to need someone who can act to play Foamy, they manage to make Haggrid look O.K in the Potter films.

I always liked the idea of new actors in any TC film - I'd hate Hollywood to get hold of it and cast that awful Colin Farrell as T.C (he seems to be in everything nowadays - really bad in DD) or Tom Cruise or (heaven help us) Russell Crowe.

Considering that I'm not a big fan of Crowe, maybe we could starve him for the role ;)

Seriously, I have a hard time picturing *anyone* who would be good enough to play Covenant. I did like the Hopkins idea, although he's too old, and I did entertain the notion of Tommy Lee Jones... again, too old. How about Johnny Depp? Too pretty? Great, great actor, though.

oh darn .. Bannor and danlo came up with the perfect person to play Covenant .. and again i forget his name .. but he is perfect!!

computer generated graphics can be excellent as you mentioned gollum was briliant! but yeah i have to agree the Hulk looked dreadful ..

Hagred was brilliant .. and having an actor do Foamy .. he would have to be someone like the guy that did Hagred imho .. or it just wont work ..

with the use of cg .. they can make people taller and bigger .. so that may help

While it is a good concept it does not fit with:

Does not alabaster mean white, sort of?

I have always seen SF as a happy man. Except in the power that preserves he has the kind of happiness that is needed as an antidote versus the whining of TC and the incredible seriousness of everybody else. You need a good actor to pull that off I think.

Giants

Post by Zahir »

The giants can be done with a few carefully planned tricks--forced perspective, body doubles, CGI etc. That's what was done with both Harry Potter and LOTR.

I'm going to repeat my choices, just for the helluvit...

Covenant = Ben Browder (of FARSCAPE)
Mhoram = Alan Rickman
Prothall = Christopher Lee
Saltheart Foamfollower = Ron Perlman
Osondrea = Judy Dench
Elena = Jennifer Connelly
Lena = Michelle Trachtenberg, for the first book anyway
Pitchwife = Geoffrey Rush
The First of the Search = Peta Wilson
Findail the Appointed = Gary Oldman[/i]

Ron Perlman? Have you seen him in The Name of the Rose? Fits Pitchwife better.
Also can you picture Jennifer Connelly with anything else than dark hair? (not that I wouldn't love to see her, flimsily clad in some Lord's blue...)

TC - Christian Bale or Johnny Depp
Mhoram - Ralph Fiennes (I like Alan Rickman, though!)

I love Geoffry Rush as Pitchwife
Elena - Nicole Kidman
Foamfollower is the one that I am stumped on. I can't think of anyone to play him. Who is Ron Perlman?
Linden - Jodie Foster
Hile Troy - Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Gary Oldman, Edward Norton - any one of these guys would do
Findail - I always kind of pictured Anthony Hopkins

I am currently watching Shogun which is on Hallmark Channel and the guy who plays the dark haired priest (In red/orange robes) with the grey streaks in his hair and the goatee, would be a perfect Kasryene!

Also, I always thought that Richard Chamberlain would do a great job as Foul. He is an extremely versatile actor. If anyone has seen some of his roles before he got really famous, you would agree!
The King has one more move.

Ron Perlman

Post by Zahir »

Ron Perlman is a very good (and very tall, btw) actor, probably best known as Vincent in the t.v. series Beauty and the Beast. Other films include Blade II and the made for cable Adventures of Captain Zoom where he plays this hilarious Ming-The-Merciless spoof.
