Anyone else catch the season opener? I thought it seemed very GAP-inesque.

I saw it. It had an odd feel to it, like I missed the previous episode.

I missed the first episode so I set my dvr to record the series from that point. I saw that episode 2 recorded and i tried to watch it last night. I began playing it and for some screwed up reason it recorded an episode of Terra Nova. WTF? I was pissed. I guess I've got to get caught up by watching what is available on the Fox website. Nertz!

Well that makes sense at least.
In that case I won't drop kick my dvr into the street.

Yeah, everything was 50 minutes late Monday. The week before, MNF kept me from watching Castle, this week, thanks to the MLB playoffs, House kept me from Castle. And Terra Nova sucks.

That's what I'm beginning to believe also.

Eh...Terra Nova's no master Art, and the writing leaves alot to be desired definitely, but, they're building up some mysteries that are getting intriguing, so, I'm willing to stay with it for the dinosaurs a bit longer, to see if the writing improves.

I watched it for about 15 minutes waiting for House. No dinosaurs. Looked like CSI: Pandora.

I might have to give this series a try. I've seen two episodes now that we've cancelled cable and stopped watching news all the time. He's a very interesting character. The show seems to have good writing. What's everyone's opinion about the show now that it has been on for a while? Has it peaked? Maintained? Going downhill? Can you jump in at any point, or is there a larger story?

The last season kind of sucked, but the current season has started off fairly well.
There's kind of a larger story and some smaller arcs, but mostly they don't matter. It's about House, and House doesn't change.

I mourn no longer having Lisa Edelstein on the show as Dr. Cutty, and I kinda liked having the long-standing tension between House and Cutty find fruition last season (which apparently Syl did not care for so much)...but the new season is pretty interesting.

Yeah, I didn't want to say so specifically, but the whole Huddy thing was a mess. Cuddy works as a foil to House, maybe a little bit for sexual tension, but she's never been... his equal. You just know it's not going to work and that the fallout is going to be huge, but... it wasn't satisfying. I think that makes sense if you go to the inspiration. Wilson and House work because it follows the Holmes/Watson dynamic. Dames and Holmes, not so much.
The only thing worse is Talb, and there was just way too much Talb last season. I should like him, since he's a deeply flawed and often surprising character. The problem is that I don't buy him as a ladies' man, no matter how much money he made/makes. I don't care about his pain because he deserves it and never quite gets what he deserves. The worst part about him, though, is that he seems competent as a doctor at best. Sure, House's other underlings probably should have stepped up their game by now (rather than their drama), but Talb never seems like he could ever be a successor to the crown.

Don't know if I agree with that; Cuddy was certainly not his diagnostic equal and probably not his overall intellectual equal, but a balanced relationship is not always based upon like for like. She brought to the table an acceptance of House and a love which was (for the most part) unconditional: despite House wanting to test just how far 'unconditional' could be stretched.
Her ability to run a hospital (demonstrated well in the episode where she needed a larger return from the major HMO) is clearly solid, as is her intuition on most occasions. House has no ability in her field and the matching of a very competent administrator with a free flowing diagnostician is a bit ying/yang. Cuddy's misgivings and uncertainties are also illustrated for the audience but would be less noticiable to the other charaters who would simply see a strong competent manager doing her job well. As a partner for House she could hold her own in terms of ability and professional and personal standing; her one weaknesss was her love, which a charater like House could not help himself but to manipulate and exploit.
In the bigger picture its been suggested she is the LeStrade character. Holmes has to not only make minutea based assessments but he has to make these in the face of the red tape and beauracracy of the local police (LeStrade) which adds urgency and another dimension to the characters ingenuity for getting around the system. Cuddy as an ally or even accomplice would limit this dimension; what's at stake if the rules do not need to be broken. Would the development of a longer lasting relationship see Cuddy becoming an ally or even an accomplice and would this not lead to a need for another protagonist: a mistress? Vicodine?

Why do I think there is another House thread? I feel like there are two.
So what did y'all think of the final episode? Where was Cuddy?

Its hard to find a satisfying ending for any popular tv show (only Newhart managed an ending that we are talking about years later) but I think the series conlusion to House was actually pretty good.

I'd have preferred they skipped the last ten minutes.
House dying in a fire would have served him right for these last three years.

Their decision to declare W a Walking Dead (heehee) seemed unreal to me.
