OK. Just watched Superman Returns and it literally made no sense at all, having watched Superman II last night. :?

As I said up above, it has been years and years since I saw the theatrical version, so maybe it is because I saw the Donner cut last night and there might have been some big changes from the theatrical version? :?

Just in case I guess I will spoil them out, and someone who has seen both versions recently can fill me in? :?
Spoiler
OK. So in Superman II he completely destroys the Fortress of Solitude, and the crystals and their reader tubie things were destroed even before that - you see them all melted and blackened looking. So how can Lex Luther go there since it no longer exists, and get the crystals which also no longer exist?

Also - since Superman goes ahead and changes history/time to a point before he had sex with Lois Lane, how can they have a kid? He changed time so that they never had sex!!
If someone can explain those two things to me, I would truly appreciate it, as those two things drove me nuts as I watched the movie. :?

General impressions : the special affects are a heck of a lot better, as would be expected. :) The guy who plays Superman is OK, but I think that Reeves was a lot better. With him in his Clark Kent persona, he had this good natured twinkle, as if he and the audience were in a good joke together. He was just adorable and completely good natured. This guy seems more pouty and somber. And there was no chemistry at all between him and the chick who played Lois Lane, though given the plot that might have been the point. :)

Hmmmm - it's been a while since I've seen Supes II, but the theatrical version does not have

time travel or the destruction of the Fortress.
So it must've been the Donner cut (which I still haven't seen.)

Thank you. :) Sounds like Superman Returns would make much better sense after watching the theatrical version of Superman II rather than the Donner version. :D 8)

Duchess, after reading your spoilers, I agree, Superman Returns would seem to make little or no sense in view of the Donner Cut of Superman II. (Well, Superman Returns already made no sense to me, but that's another story.)

Darn it, I'll have to get the Donner Cut to see for myself. I'm hoping a used copy turns up soon.
