Tired. frustrated. Spent too much and had to roll change for smokes. I'm so torn about stuff. I'm job hunting, nothing is coming up in my field. I'm thinking about making some lateral moves for money sake. My options are trying to find a place in Berkeley so I can lose the $60 bucks a week in travel costs and the three hours a day it takes me to commute, or I can try to transfer to a city with much less cost of living but they can't reduce my pay because I am an established manager and just living there for a year or two so I can save up some money or trying something different altogether which could ultimately turn bad. So far the city move option is the most reasonable since Heatherly is moving to Portland this year. The option is to find a place together and me transfer. NO RIGEL, I am not stalking you. I have friends in Portland and family in Eugene. I kinda don't want to go but I kinda do, maybe set my head and save some skrilla before moving back to SF. I'm just tired of barely being able to pay my bills. Almost all of the associates who work for my company live with their parents or have student loans. The management people who are department managers like me also live with parents in order to afford life. The assistants and store managers make fat bank. I should be since I do the job of an assistant and get paid for department, regardless, they make fat bank. Then again I spent so long in Oregon that I have a mental not want to move there...gah...why am I so crazy??

if portland is best then go there girl. you need a sounding board i am always here for you.

moving to texas was for julie to reclaim her family. she had been cut off too long. i lost everyday contact with my family, but it was the best for us. my art exists in real form now. we did reclaim her family.

we don't see our grandson as much as we would like. but we have him friday.

and living here made it possible to go to the last e-fest. and that will turn out to be a major turning point in our lives.

Estate agents tend to just deal with the buying and selling while solicitors do the legal stuff; there's not much mixing of the two.

That's what a realtor does. They can't do legal work unless they themselves have a law license.

yep, actually, I think it does matter. Since people do make a purchase, right or wrong, smart or stupid, knowing they will have an added $200/300 bucks a month might convince a person to wait until they have the 20%.

I don't believe it works the same way over here.

Does she have Internet at all, Sarge? If she does, you should be able to plug into her modem or whatever with an ethernet cable.

Menolly, as I understand it, it works like this (US first, then UK equivalent):

realtor/real estate agent --> estate agent
lawyer who typically doesn't go to trial --> solicitor
lawyer who takes cases to trial --> barrister

Re lawyers, the US doesn't differentiate -- any lawyer here can take a case to trial, as long as he or she is admitted to the bar of that specific court (and after passing the first bar exam, admission to other bars is pretty much a formality). But in the UK, a solicitor handles stuff like trusts & estates, real estate deals, etc.

In any case, I feel your pain. I'm exchanging an extra hour added to my commute every day to save about a hundred on rent every month. I've had commutes that long before, and it sucks, but it's too good to pass up.

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Of course, I'd encourage you to move to Portland anyway, since the city is AWESOME, and having more Watchers here would make it AWESOMER, but you do what's best for you.

Portland is cool. Plus they've got Powell's. Hard to object a city that can spawn Powell's.

There is Powell's. I do loves me some Powell's. I think I must have bought a dozen copies of LFB from them during the FBH years and the last time I was there I think I spent about three hours just browsing. AND they have the tiger's heart theater which specializes in shakespeare plays. AND I could stalk Rigel although it would only be for a year. Right now it's just a serious thought. I need to look into the transfer thing and a bunch of other stuff before I really get down to making any decisions one way or another.

I am off today and looking at an exciting day of laundry and errands. Whoo hoody.

I am having an awesome day... my parents-in-law (who are just amazing people) are in the country / in town now! Was hanging out with them... not doing much today... it's great.

Some of you guys have mentioned that you are unhappy with commuting to work! At the moment, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum!
I live above the shop where I work. I go down two flights of steps and I'm there at the workplace. Three flights of steps if I have to work in the warehouse or woodwork rooms. There can be days when I'm out and about in the van collecting and delivering furniture but mostly it's work, rest, and play, within a smallish vacinity.

So if I don't get out of here at the weekends my world can easily slip into ever decreasing circles, (and then).

Looking forward to playing golf this Sunday.

Busy weekend here. Tomorrow I'm going to drag Magickmaker to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Then on Sunday she's dragging me to a winery where one of her college roommates is working this summer, so she can drop something off with the roommate for another friend (and incidentally we'll get to have lunch and a wine tasting ).

I went to the bookstore, Borderlands, while the laundry was on dry cycle and I couldn't decide which China Mieville to get so I got four. I got "The Kraken" "The Scar" "Rat King" and "Perdido Street Station." I got to talking with the girl at the store and she said I got about the widest variety of his writing as I possibly could. She recommended I start with the Perdido one so I began it at the laundramat. So far it's excellent.

As long as you can get past the bug sex, yeah.
