The way I try and do it is to not guess one that has multiple possibilities, because then you fall into the trap of focusing on just one word. Instead, keep trying to add more letters to the overall scenario, while still guessing words. It can be too tempting to focus on one word that has several possible answers, but the better way is to spread the guesses around - particularly if it means adding more letters.

Anyway, everyone does it differently, so what works for me may not work for you. And sometimes it doesn't work for me either
