My youngest brother emailed me this yesterday. It's disgusting. I mean, really? He wants a 40 year old from that loser movie to play a 20 year old Kirk. I don't know how to respond to this. If it gets out, I think this will tear my family apart. But if I keep it inside, it might destroy me. Oh well, at least he didn't suggest Neil Patrick Harris.

I actually liked Starship Troopers, but yes, your brother has brought shame to your household!

Finally saw this last night...........FANTASTIC!

Casting...was perfect.
Kirk with the green woman just had me laughing for hours!

I liked how the past was altered but things matched up again at the end.

Kirk's cheating was horrible though.
Couldn't he have played it a little less obvious?

I'm a diehard fan of the original series and I really just loved this "reboot".

News in Oz this morning was that JJ Abrams is having lunch with William Shatner with a view to finding some part in the next Star Trek movie due out in 2011. How they will incorporate him?

There cannot be an easy way as he will not resemble a Kirk prior to him 'dying' and he should not have aged in the Nexus, so other than serious CGI cosmetic work it would have to be a post Nexus period with 'a' Kirk being rescued/released/manifested by or from the Nexus. Sounds like a good negotiating stance for Whoopi to start making overtures from too.

But........any other ideas of how you'd write Kirk back in????

Since time travel and parallel universes have completely corrupted the series (gosh SRD, you think you'd have taken a lesson...), after a turbo-flush mishap in the space toilet, Kirk returns to his Starfleet Academy class an aged man.

Turbo-flush incident? Talk about your gaseous anomalies.........

Easy - we have a new timeline, We have time travel. *shrugs*.

And - I may have caught glimpse of some Neil Patrick Harris criticism earlier in the thread. I will not stand for it. He is an American treasure! While I certainly can't abide by the way Veerhoven hacked one of my favorite novels/writers to pieces, if one were to take the movie for what it is it's actually really not that bad. As far as lantern jawed space jockeys go, Van Deem really wasn't too bad.

I just purchased the dvd.

I actually found it for sale on Monday (26th) at Blockbuster!

Good to watch it again, tho' I was a bit dissoed with the "extras" as they'be been hyped up a fair bit. Some good dialogue from JJ and friends put some of the plot mechanics into perspective, but nothing earth shattering, the best stuff was from Leonard Nimoy and it was really warming to see the original Uhura and Chekhov on set to support their replacements (or should that be predecessors).

Really impressed with the casting....

Huh? An American Movie is on sale (weeks earlier than the release in America) in other countries? Our release date isn't until Nov 17

They have to remove all the porn scenes first before it goes on sale here...and that takes awhile.

Well yeah...at least to us Americans

I'm definitely not a Trek fan . . . you could say that I am sometimes inspired to loathe the setting. That said, I saw this film the other night and really enjoyed it. The best Trek films seem to be the ones which are sheer entertainment, and this film succeeded on that level. Bana as the villain was really excellent - he made a fresh break from all of the aristocratic or imperialist style villains common in the film franchise. He was quite an under-stated character, and I liked that.

Agreed. I recall not being impressed with Nero in the first viewing. However, I missed the subtlety, and he really is interesting and novel.

The movie gets 4 stars from me.

Just saw it yesterday on DVD. Never much a fan for the series, but I had fun watching it. Although I can definitely understand all of the problems people had with the film.
