Cradle Song

Sing a cradle-song now, as the light fades around us
And you breathe like the ocean, lying small in my arms
See it all in a moment - you so young and unclouded
Shining bright as a lion - feel the motion of time
As the world rolls away from the sun.
I can feel your life burning - unlived moments within you
Further than I can see...

May the fire be your friend and the sea rock you gently,
May the moon light your way - till the wind sets you free

I remember your face as you cried for the first time
The cold air of the world and the fierce light of day
And the cruel separation in a world washed with tears;
Numbed with pain to unfeeling - May you hold to your truth
As you walk the dark night of unreason
The stone walls which surround us - may your spirit fly round them
Like the wind from the sea...

May the fire be your friend and the sea rock you gently,
May the moon light your way - till the wind sets you free

May you never know hunger: may you love with a full heart -
The light stay in your eyes...

May the fire be your friend and the sea rock you gently,
May the moon light your way - till the wind sets you free
May the fire be your friend and the sea rock you gently,
May the moon light your way - till the wind sets you free

It's been a Van Morrison kind of evening, listening to his albums Astral Weeks and Moondance while playing sudoku. However, all good things come to an end. When this last song finishes, I'm off to bed.

Good night all!

I'm CRAVING a cigarette! Instead of breaking my 13 day run of cigarettelessness I'm going to bed!

Nigh-nigh everyone. Sleep well...or if you're getting up have a lovely day! :)

Seareach out.

According to a top TV hypnotist, tapping your wrist or temple every time you crave something, takes your mind off it - apparantly, cravings only last for a few minutes, and if you can get past those few minutes, you're OK.

So does smacking yourself in the head with a rock (which is what I think it would take for me to take my mind off it!). Seriously though, thanks for the hint...I'll give it a try. I'm usually aok with the cravings until late at night when my craving is just an unending string of time rather than a "few minutes". :P

Going to sleep now, and hoping that when I get back all the discussion today won't have gone in a direction I won't like.

A poem for your consideration, as bedtime looms:

Sestina

There is too much space in my bed
for my cat and me. She eyes the window,
vaults, stumbles, rests, and dreams of a field
full of mice to hunt. I want to go
with her, tonight; to prey and forget
I'm not feline. If I have children

I hope they'll be the kind of children
who will imagine as they lay in bed
that they can be something else; forget
their physical limits, lean on windows
and watch the stars, the moon; dream of going
further in their dreams. Somewhere is a field

full of wildflowers that fields
the magic of dreaming children
in a thousand rows. We can still go
there even though we're adults; sneak out of bed,
visit our children's bedroom windows
and wait. Sometimes we need to forget

that we have bills to pay, and forget
that we learned how to tell time. A field
counts time by color and growth. A window
reflects time by the moon and the sun. Children
watch their parents watching clocks, leave for bed
when forced--told it's time. And though they'll go

they'll stay awake with thoughts that go
off in a thousand directions; they'll forget
soon what time it is. They'll make their beds
into boats, rockets; head for fields
lit by the sun or moon. Many children
close their eyes and turn from their windows

afraid. I hope my child's windows
stay fogged by their breath, and let them go
when their eyes get heavy. But children
would take too much time; I forget
I barely support myself. The field
for my cat and me is only a bed

with green sheets near a window. She comes back to bed
when she can't get out, her field
safe in children's sleep. They will learn to forget.
