Life springs eternal on a gaudy neon street
not that I care at all
spent the best part of my losing streak in an Army Jeep
For what I can't recall
oh I'm banging on my TV set and I check the odds
and I placed my bet
I pour a drink and I pull the blinds
and I wonder what I'll find

I'm Leaving Las Vegas
lights so bright
palm sweat and blackjack
on a Saturday night
leaving Las Vegas
leaving for good, for good
I'm leaving for good

Used to be I could drive up to Barstow for the night
find some crossroad trucker to demonstrate his might
But these days it seems nowhere is far enough away
so I'm leaving Las Vegas today

I'm Leaving Las Vegas
lights so bright
palm sweat, blackjack
on a Saturday night
leaving Las Vegas
leaving for good, for good
I'm leaving for good

now i'm standing in the middle of the desert
Waiting for my ship to come in
But now no joker, no jack, no king
can take this loser hand and make it win

I'm Leaving Las Vegas
lights so bright
palm sweat, blackjack
on a Saturday night
leaving Las Vegas
leaving for good, for good
I'm leaving for good

I quit my job as a dancer at the Lido Des Girls
dealing blackjack until one or two
such a muddy line between the things you want
and the things you have to do

I'm Leaving Las Vegas
lights so bright
palm sweat, blackjack
on a Saturday night
leaving Las Vegas
leaving for good, for good
I'm leaving for good
I'm leaving Las Vegas
and I won't be back
no I won't be back
not this time

It's a retread off an old album, but I'm really digging QOTSA's "Make It Wit Chu" on the new album (there's also a good cover of "White Wedding" on the b-sides disk, if that's your thing). The song's so damn sexy, I think I'll have to put Homme down in the mancrush thread.
You wanna know if I know why?
I can't say that I do,
I don't understand the evil eye,
Or how one becomes two.
And I just can't recall what started it all,
Or how to begin in the end,
I ain't here to break it,
Just see how far it will bend,
Again and again,

I wanna make it,
I wanna make it wit chu,
Anytime, anywhere,
I wanna make it,
I wanna make it wit chu,

Sometimes the same is different,
but mostly it's the same
these mysteries of life, that jus ain't my thing
if I told you that I knew about the sun and the moon,
I'd be untrue
The only thing I know for sure
Is what I wanna do
anytime, anywhere and I say

I wanna make it,
I wanna make it wit chu,
Anytime, anywhere,
I wanna make it,
I wanna make it wit chu,
Again and again.

Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
of the big lake they called "Gitche Gumee."
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
when the skies of November turn gloomy.
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty,
that good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
when the "Gales of November" came early.

The ship was the pride of the American side
coming back from some mill in Wisconsin.
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
with a crew and good captain well seasoned,
concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
when they left fully loaded for Cleveland.
And later that night when the ship's bell rang,
could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
and a wave broke over the railing.
And ev'ry man knew, as the captain did too
'twas the witch of November come stealin'.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
when the Gales of November came slashin'.
When afternoon came it was freezin' rain
in the face of a hurricane west wind.

When suppertime came the old cook came on deck sayin'.
"Fellas, it's too rough t'feed ya."
At seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in; he said,
"Fellas, it's bin good t'know ya!"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
and the good ship and crew was in peril.
And later that night when 'is lights went outta sight
came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does any one know where the love of God goes
when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
if they'd put fifteen more miles behind 'er.
They might have split up or they might have capsized;
they may have broke deep and took water.
And all that remains is the faces and the names
of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
in the rooms of her ice-water mansion.
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams;
the islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
takes in what Lake Erie can send her,
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
with the Gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed,
in the "Maritime Sailors' Cathedral."
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
of the big lake they call "Gitche Gumee."
"Superior," they said, "never gives up her dead
when the gales of November come early!"

Fly On the Inside-Shinedown
dedicated to Emotional Leper

Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders
On my shoulders
All alone I pierce the chain
And on and on the sting remains
And dieing eyes consume me now
The voice inside screams out loud

[Chorus:]
I am focused on what I am after
The key to the next open chapter
Cause I found a way to steal the sun from the sky
Long live that day that I decided to fly from the inside

Every day a new deception
Pick your scene and take direction
And on and on I search to connect

But I don't wear a mask and I have no regrets
I am focused on what I am after
The key to the next open chapter

[Chorus]

I can't escape the pain
I can't control the rage
Sometimes I think that I'm gonna go insane
I'm not against what's right
I'm not for what's wrong
I'm just making my way and I'm gone

Here's the weight of the world on my shoulders

Sample In A Jar : Phish

It's hidden far away
But someday i may tell
The tale of metal tangle
When into your world i fell
Without you now i wander soaking
Secretly afraid
'cause in your grasp the fears don't last
(and some of them have stayed)

I wheeled around because i
Didn't hear what you had said
And saw you dancing with elihu
Up on leemor's bed
And i was foggy rather groggy, you helped me to my car
The binding belt enclosing me, a sample in a jar

And on the market stands unfolding
With all their willies and their wares
I shuffle by alert but numb
To all the glances and the glares
And i think of you unheeding
All the times i raise my cup
It's now i know that you knew that
I'd soon end up end up

Chorus

You tricked me like the others
And now i don't belong
The simple smiles and good times seem all wrong

Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you

It isnt your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you

When youre in my arms and I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams come true

I need no soft lights to enchant me
If youll only grant me the right
To hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night the nearness of you

I know I stand in line
Until you think you have the time
To spend an evening with me
And if we go someplace to dance
I know that there's a chance
You won't be leaving with me

Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place
And have a drink or two
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you

I can see it in your eyes
That you despise the same old lines
You heard the night before
And though it's just a line to you
For me it's true
And never seemed so right before

I practice every day to find some clever
lines to say
To make the meaning come through
But then I think I'll wait until the evening
gets late
And I'm alone with you

The time is right
Your perfume fills my head
The stars get red
And oh the night's so blue
And then I go and spoil it all
By saying something stupid
Like I love you
I love you...

Into the Ocean
by Blue October

I'm just a normal boy
That sank when I fell overboard
My ship would leave the country
But I'd rather swim ashore

Without a life that's sadly stuck again
Wish I was much more masculine
Maybe then I could learn to swim
Like "Fourteen miles away"

Now floating up and down
I spin, colliding into sound
Like whales beneath me diving down
I'm sinking to the bottom of my
Everything that freaks me out
The lighthouse beam has just ran out
I'm cold as cold as cold can be
Be

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion (yeah)
Let the rain of what I feel right now.. come down
Let the rain come down

Where is the coastguard
I keep looking each direction
For a spotlight, give me something
I need something for protection
Maybe flotsam junk will do just fine
The jetsam sunk, I'm left behind
I'm treading for my life believe me
(How can I keep up this breathing)

Not knowing how to think
I scream aloud begin to sink
My legs and arms are broken down
With envy for the solid ground
I'm reaching for the life within me
How can one man stop his ending
I thought of just your face
Relaxed and floated into space

I want to swim away but don' know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion
Let the rain of what I feel right now.. come down
Let the rain come down

Now walking to the sun
I calculate what I had done
Like jumping from the bow
Just to prove I knew how
It's midnight's late reminder of
The loss of her, the one I love
My will to quickly end it all
So thought no end my need to fall

Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all
Into the ocean, end it all

Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)

I want to swim away but don't know how
Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean
Let the waves up take me down
Let the hurricane set in motion (yeah)
Let the rain of what I feel right now...come down
Let the rain come down
Let the rain come down

Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
(In to space)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
(I thought of just your face)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)
Into the ocean (goodbye) end it all (goodbye)

...ah, that song Null! That reminds me of someone....

So I'm in soppy lyric world today...but, yeah...it works for me:

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
I want to vanish inside your kiss
Every day I'm loving you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change, winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you
And there's no mountain too high
No river too wide
Sing out this song I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather
And stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Oh, come what may, come what may
I will love you, I will love you
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place

Come what may
Come what may
I will love you until my dying day

TIME IN A BOTTLE
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
Id save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with

All the people at this party
They've got a lot of style
They've got stamps of many countries
They've got passport smiles
Some are friendly
Some are cutting
Some are watching it from the wings
Some are standing in the center
Giving to get something

Photo Beauty gets attention
Then her eye paint's running down
She's got a rose in her teeth
And a lampshade crown
One minute she's so happy
Then she's crying on someone's knee
Saying laughing and crying
You know it's the same release

I told you when I met you
I was crazy
Cry for us all Beauty
Cry for Eddie in the corner
Thinking he's nobody
And Jack behind his joker
And stone-cold Grace behind her fan
And me in my frightened silence
Thinking I don't understand

I feel like I'm sleeping
Can you wake me
You seem to have a broader sensibility
I'm just living on nerves and feelings
With a weak and a lazy mind
And coming to peoples parties
Fumbling deaf dumb and blind

I wish I had more sense ot humor
Keeping the sadness at bay
Throwing the lightness on these things
Laughing it all away
Laughing it ali away
Laughing it all away

"When I Was A Lad" by Gilbert and Sullivan

Sir Joseph.
When I was a lad I served a term
As office boy to an Attorney's firm.
I cleaned the windows and I swept the floor,
And I polished up the handle of the big front door.

Chorus.
He polished up the handle of the big front door.

Sir Joseph.
I polished up that handle so carefullee
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
He polished up that handle so carefullee,
That now he is the ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Sir Joseph.
As office boy I made such a mark
That they gave me the post of a junior clerk.
I served the writs with a smile so bland,
And I copied all the letters in a big round hand.
Chorus.
He copied all the letters in a big round hand.

Sir Joseph.
I copied all the letters in a hand so free,
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
He copied all the letters in a hand so free,
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Sir Joseph.
In serving writs I made such a name
That an articled clerk I soon became;
I wore clean collars and a brand-new suit
For the pass examination at the Institute.

Chorus.
For the pass examination at the Institute.

Sir Joseph.
That pass examination did so well for me,
That now I am the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
That pass examination did so well for he,
That now he is the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Sir Joseph.
Of legal knowledge I acquired such a grip
That they took me into the partnership.
And that junior partnership, I ween,
Was the only ship that I ever had seen.

Chorus.
Was the only ship that he ever had seen.

Sir Joseph.
But that kind of ship so suited me,
That now I am the ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
But that kind of ship so suited he,
That now he is the ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Sir Joseph.
I grew so rich that I was sent
By a pocket borough into Parliament.
I always voted at my party's call,
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all.

Chorus.
He never thought of thinking for himself at all.

Sir Joseph.
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
He thought so little, they rewarded he
By making him the Ruler of the Queen's Navee!

Sir Joseph.
Now landsmen all, whoever you may be,
If you want to rise to the top of the tree,
If your soul isn't fettered to an office stool,
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule.

Chorus.
Be careful to be guided by this golden rule.

Sir Joseph.
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea,
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!

Chorus.
Stick close to your desks and never go to sea,
And you all may be rulers of the Queen's Navee!

DIALOGUE

Sir Joseph.
You've a remarkably fine crew, Captain Corcoran.

Captain Corcoran.
It is a fine crew, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph. (examining a very small midshipman)
A British sailor is a splendid fellow, Captain Corcoran.

Captain Corcoran.
A splendid fellow indeed, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph.
I hope you treat your crew kindly, Captain Corcoran.

Captain Corcoran.
Indeed I hope so, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph.
Never forget that they are the bulwarks of England's greatness,
Captain Corcoran.

Captain Corcoran.
So I have always considered them, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph.
No bullying, I trust — no strong language of any kind, eh?

Captain Corcoran.
Oh, never, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph. What, never?

Captain Corcoran.
Hardly ever, Sir Joseph. They are an excellent crew, and do
their work thoroughly without it.

Sir Joseph.
Don't patronise them, sir — pray, don't patronise them.

Captain Corcoran.
Certainly not, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph.
That you are their captain is an accident of birth. I cannot permit
these noble fellows to be patronised because an accident of birth
has placed you above them and them below you.

Captain Corcoran.
I am the last person to insult a British sailor, Sir Joseph.

Sir Joseph.
You are the last person who did, Captain Corcoran. Desire
that splendid seaman to step forward.

(Dick comes forward)

No, no, the other splendid seaman.

Captain Corcoran.
Ralph Rackstraw, three paces to the front — march!

Sir Joseph. (sternly)
If what?

Captain Corcoran.
I beg your pardon -- I don't think I understand you.

Sir Joseph.
If you please.

Captain Corcoran.
Oh, yes, of course. If you please. (Ralph steps forward.)

Sir Joseph.
You're a remarkably fine fellow.

Ralph.
Yes, your honour.

Sir Joseph.
And a first-rate seaman, I'll be bound.

Ralph.
There's not a smarter topman in the Navy, your honour,
though I say it who shouldn't.

Sir Joseph.
Not at all. Proper self-respect, nothing more. Can you dance
a hornpipe?

Ralph.
No, your honour.

Sir Joseph.
That's a pity: all sailors should dance hornpipes. I will teach
you one this evening, after dinner. Now tell me — don't be
afraid — how does your captain treat you, eh?

Ralph.
A better captain don't walk the deck, your honour.

All.
Aye; Aye!

Sir Joseph.
Good. I like to hear you speak well of your commanding officer;
I daresay he don't deserve it, but still it does you credit. Can you sing?

Ralph.
I can hum a little, your honour.

Sir Joseph.
Then hum this at your leisure. (Giving him MS. music.) It is a
song that I have composed for the use of the Royal Navy. It is
designed to encourage independence of thought and action in the
ower branches of the service, and to teach the principle that a
British sailor is any man's equal, excepting mine. Now, Captain
Corcoran, a word with you in your cabin, on a tender and
sentimental subject.

Captain Corcoran.
Aye, aye, Sir Joseph. (Crossing) Boatswain, in commemoration
of this joyous occasion, see that extra grog is served out to the
ship's company at seven bells.

Boatswain.
Beg pardon. If what, your honour?

Captain Corcoran.
If what? I don't think I understand you.

Boatswain.
If you please, your honour.

Captain Corcoran.
What!

Sir Joseph.
The gentleman is quite right. If you please.

Captain Corcoran. (stamping his foot impatiently)
If you please!

Colin Hay Band - Waiting For My Real Life To Begin

Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll stand on the bow
And feel the waves come crashing
Come crashing down, down, down on me

And you said,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

When I awoke today suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path
And up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my own footsteps once again

And you say,"Just be here now
Forget about the past
Your mask is wearing thin"
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Any minute now my ship is coming in
I'll keep checking the horizon
And I'll check my machine
There's sure to be that call
It's gonna happen soon, soon, oh so very soon
It's just that times are lean

And you say,"Be still, my love
Open up your heart
Let the light shine in"
Don't you understand?
I already have a plan
I'm waiting for my real life to begin

Hey heyeyeyeyey
Hey yeeeeeee
Hey heyeyeyeyey
Eeh eeh eeh eeh eh x5

I’ve got the world on a string
I’m sitting on a rainbow
Got the string around my finger
What a world, what a life - I’m in love

I’ve got a song that I sing
I can make the rain go
Any time I move my finger
Lucky me, can’t you see - I’m in love

Life’s a wonderful thing
As long as I hold the string
I’d be a silly so-and-so
If I should ever let him go

Let's take it nice and easy
It's gonna be so easy
For us to fall in love

Hey baby what's your hurry
Relax and don't you worry
We're gonna fall in love

We're on the road to romance - that's safe to say
But let's make all the stops along the way

The problem now of course is
To simply hold your horses
To rush would be a crime
'Cause nice and easy does it every time

We're on the road to romance - that's safe to say
But let's make all the stops along the way

The problem now of course is
To simply hold your horses
To rush would be a crime
'Cause nice and easy does it
'Cause nice and easy does it
'Cause nice and easy does it every time

Nice and easy does it
Nice and easy does it
Nice and easy does it every time

Uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

Lack of involvement with the father
Or over-involvement with the mother
Can result in lack of ability
To relate to sexual peers

And in homosexual leanings
Narcissism, transsexuality --
Girls from the waist up
Men from the waist down --
Attempts to be your own love object
Reconcile your parents to you
By becoming both at once

Even Marilyn Monroe was a man
But this tends to get over looked
By our mother-fixated
Overweight, sexist media

So, uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

If you give in to them
Every time they cry
They will become little tyrants
But they won't remember why
Then when they are thwarted
By people in later life
They will become psychotic
And they won't make an ideal husband or wife

The spoiled baby grows into
The escapist teenager who's
The adult alchoholic who's
The middle-aged suicide

Oi
So

Uncorrected personality traits
That seem whimsical in a child
May prove to be ugly in
A fully grown adult

woke up with this in my head this morning!! 8O

Well, when you're sitting there
In your silk upholstered chair
Talking to some rich folks that you know
Well I hope you wont see me
In my ragged company
You know I could never be alone

Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave

Well, when youre sitting back
In your rose pink cadillac
Making bets on kentucky derby day
I'll be in my basement room
With a needle and a spoon
And another girl to take my pain away

Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the mail
Send me dead flowers to my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave

Take me down little susie, take me down
I know you think youre the queen of the underground
And you can send me dead flowers every morning
Send me dead flowers by the u.s. mail
Say it with dead flowers at my wedding
And I wont forget to put roses on your grave
No I wont forget to put roses on your grave

...sing it Mr Buble....sinnnnngggggggggggggggggggg..... :)

Here we are
On earth together
It's you and I
God has made us fall in love
It's true
I've really found
Someone like you
Will it stay
The love you feel for me
Will you say
That you will be by my side
To see me through
Until my life is through
Well in my mind
We can conquer the world
In love you and I
You and I, you and I...
I am glad
At least in my life
I've found someone
That may not be here forever
To see me through
But I found my strength in you
Cause in my mind
You will stay here always
In love you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I
In my mind
We can conquer the world
In love you and I
You and I, you and I
You and I...
