I received it about eight hours after I received my own winnings.

I think Wayfriend was asking about the ring in the Aumbrie that you have had your eye on...
Yes, it is not about the destination, but the journey. Keep telling yourself that.

oh...
I'm barely 10% there, and that's *if* I can snag it without ~jay raising the price one me once I start to get close...
but yes...
It's about the journey to the destination, not the destination itself.
I enjoy being a Watcher. Attaining what WGDs I can by participating is the side benefit to participating.

Questioning your math...
Nearly 13% is
Way more than a tenth
Ring from the Watch store
Still a long way off, but do
Not minimize it
Keep eyes on the prize
Slow and steady wins the race
(And other clichés...)

Well, I have another 500, so here goes.
The Contest
This contest is a cross between
The Price is Right and
Stephen R Donaldson Ate My Dictionary.
I have chosen eight words which figure prominently in SRD's works. There is a [rather useless] clue provided for each word. Each contestant must guess
how many letters are in each word. The contestant who comes closest, without going over, wins that word. Whomever wins the most words wins the contest, and wins 500 WGD.
Small print: If you want to play, you have to post a guess for all eight words. Each guess for each word must be a whole number. In the event of a tie for a word, the word is awarded equally to all the players who tied. In the event of a tie for most words won, there will be a playoff of some sort between the players who tied.
Here are the eight clues:
- There's a song for a conunction one.
- Sounds like something you would squeeze from a pimple.
- A reason for cold feet.
- One night, dated the regional manager of the Scranton branch of a paper distribution company.
- Use of a low grade laminate.
- Won't stick to an EMT.
- How Snowy frequently passes the time.
- Angry Birds bare them.
I think everyone can play this one. No excuses! Noobs welcome.

Now, now. The first new game after a Survivor mega-game historically hasn't been a comparatively big draw. Last time, it ended up with a contestant unilaterally declaring himself winner and attempting to award himself the White Gold Ring from the Aumbrie. Fortunately, that did not stand.
However, WF, you might consider retiring or revising the Survivor reference in your signature. No point in pimping a contest that is over, nu?

Please sir, Mr Wayfriend, could you please explain:
1. What on earth is a positive integer? I googled but don't understand the answers!
2. What is a conunction? That doesn't come up at all on google, or my dictionary.
3. How can u possibly squeeze something with 11 letters out of a pimple??
4 What is EMT? East Midland Trains? Emergency Medical Technician?
5. Who is Snowy?
6. I believe Angry Birds is a computer game, but my grandsons have hats with scarves attached that they tell me are angry birds. Or are you referring to the two blackbirds in my garden who insist on squabbling?
Help!!

1. Any integer larger than zero. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer
2. No idea. My dictionaries fail also.
4. ??????????????????????????????
5. He might be meaning Milou from the Tintin comics?
6. Finnish video game
7. Scranton: what/when/where is this?
I would re-evaluate the n00b/foreigner friendliness of this contest.

Maybe we should work on this as a group and let wayfiend disburse the prize in whatever manner he subsequently deems fit
A positive integer is a whole number greater than 0 e.g. 1,2,1002, a quingazillion!
A 'conunction' is either a mispelling of 'conjunction', or a very clever word play because leaving out the 'j' breaks the joining that is contained in 'conjunction'. Since I think the clue has to do with breaking rather than joining (think 1st Chrons and songs) then it's very clever indeed. (There is also probably a sub-pun 'unction' (= healing) and most likely on 'con' (= jointly) as well

)
I didn't do any squeezing

I simply guessed that the word 'pus' might be involved and then a regular favourite word of SRD'd spurted (eeuwh!) to mind!
Someone else help Iolanthe with the others?!

Aha! So, an Integer is a "whole number" so why not say "whole number"?
I thought of pus too - clever, I thought, a lot of people put two esses on it which would have made it 4 letters, but I think I missed the whole spirit of the thing -

the answer has to be a word that appears in the Chronicles. Doh
Thanks, Frosty. Tintin and Snowy rings a bell, but not a very loud one unfortunately. I too have never heard of a "Scranton"!
As for the conunction theory, u (and Wayfriend) you are just too clever for me.
Now, there's a thread somewhere on here about strange words used by SD - must go and take a look!

1: A "normal" counting number like 4 or 7. Not a number like 6½ or 3.01. My intention here was to prevent people playing fractions of a number. Did you ever watch The Price is Right? There's always that guy who thinks he's tricksy by bidding $300.01.
Anyway, I changed the context text. It says "whole number".
2 through 6: figuring it out is part of the game, alas. If other people want to give you hints, that's fine, but I can't give you more than I have. (And I've given you some you may not have realized.)

Please tell me you made that up.
Scranton is a city in Pennsylvania. It's where V-P Biden is from.
Okay, fine, here are my answers. I guarantee all of them are wrong except maybe one.
1. I dunno, but I know the song: "Conunction unction, what's your (f)unction?"

2. Puissance!
3. A warm heart. Also, standing on a block of ice. Or a wedding, I guess.
4. Harry Chapin.
5. Kitchen countertops in a Section 8 apartment.
6. Teflon bandages.
7. Hunting mice in the dark.
8. Angry beaks. I was gonna say teeth, but birds don't have teeth...
Do I win?

But wait.......... I had an effect, I got something changed! Thank you Sir! I'll now go and do some homework and try to find some proper answers.

Aliantha, you were supposed to guess how many letters were in the word that was the answer, not tell everyone the (maybe) answers!
