McD's double fish sandwich and fries, cause there was no time for dinner at work and I needed something I could eat in the car while driving home.

I was SO hungry by that time. :(

Apparently. Hope you balance that out with fruits, veggies and less-processed carbs and fats tomorrow.

Be Well...

mother in law is having her birthday today so we're having her over. I'm making pesto stuffed chicken breast wrapped with bacon and oven-baked, potatoes and carrots cooked through then sautéed in olive oil and herbs quickly, portabella mushrooms and baking a strawberry tart. Also a little sallad with baby plum tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, olive oil, sea salt and black pepper (with little fresh mozzarella on the side since she doesn't eat dairy).

Neither of you showed up! I even put out a place for you both. You could have shared in all the stories my mother in law told and the advice she had!

In a bizarre juxtaposition to my post upthread, I had A Slimfast shake for dinner last night. I have a chipped tooth or something that is making it too uncomfortable to chew solid food. I sure hope the dentist can fit me in Monday morning. :(

I the meantime. I ran to the pharmacy and tried some of that OTC temporary filling stuff to see if I can cover the sharp edge that cuts into my tongue when I chew. :(

Been to my mommy's 65 birthday today. She prepared some nice little things to eat. Outstanding was the lukewarm smoked halibut on a basil-lemon-cream.

Feel better soon MsMary.

That sounds awesomely good, Vader. Did your mom smoke the halibut herself? I don't think I've ever seen that available for purchase here.

I had scrambled eggs and cooked collard greens for dinner. Sticking with soft foods. Oh, and half a grapefruit - when sectioned it slides down pretty easily, but the acidity hurt my tongue where it had been previously irritated by the tooth.

hyperception and I had an early dinner (4:00 seating) at Vellos Backstreet Grill for our 24th anniversary celebration. They had sent me a $10 coupon for our anniversary, and while we figured it would barely make a dent in the expense, decided to go there anyway.

When we arrived, there was a sign out front that said on Monday and Tuesdays diners would receive a free bottle of wine when two signature entrees were purchased. Nice! Except hyperception was actually back in town from visiting his dad this week because he had work to do with a tutoring student tonight, and felt he shouldn't indulge. A wise choice on his part, I felt.

Besides, it turned out the coupon was not valid with any other specials, such as the wine, so we would have had to choose one or the other.

However, it was also happy hour, and their $8.00 "diamond margaritas" were offered for $4.50, so I went ahead and had one. After all, I wasn't driving and had no where special to be afterwards... ;)

We started with baked baby brie with fig reduction served with everything wasa wafers. Since we both wanted the "Backstreet" salad, we decided to order one full size one and split it, instead of the smaller ones you could order with a meal for $2.99 each. We then both had cups of the soup of the day: smoked chipotle rubbed rib soup, topped with a swirl of creme fraiche. Very nice indeed.

It was a good thing we decided not to go with the wine special, as neither of us wound up ordering a "signature entree." Instead, hyperception ordered the roasted vegetable calzone with home made aioli and home made kettle chips. It was very nicely done.

I had the mahi tacos, which came with salsa fresca and guacamole. Not very large, but the perfect amount with everything else.

We finished up with two desserts: what they called "zingas," I believe, and a hazelnut-nutella torte.

hyperception had unsweet tea with lime, and after my margarita, I stuck with water with lime.

Total bill after coupon and with tip on the original amount before coupon came to $70. We were quite pleased.

I came home from work to a massive plate of vegetable canneloni with broccoli, carrot, courgette, spinach, beans and cottage cheese as the filling, a thick tomato sauce, topped with melted cheese. Ahhhhh. :)
