Yeah, I'm not sure unction is right, either. "Conunction" in the clue is pretty obviously missing a "j", but I'm not getting anywhere with that. Another possibility is a joining of unctions, I guess, but that's also not musical. And there's always the chance WF simply misspelled the bloody word. Actually, I think the only one I got right was #2 -- although WF's word could have been either puissance or puissant.
I think u. is on the right track with your "low-grade laminate" idea, but the word is from the Last Chrons, not from Mordant's Need.

Between the clue, and the song you referred, and the fact we're looking for an SRD word... I'm certain it's unction. You're overthinking it.
"Trepidation" was one that just jumped out at me immediately, because it's a word SRD uses and it means fear, and what are you feeling when you get cold feet about something?
Formication has to be correct, good catch there.
I'm trying to think simple on these. Something a dog does for the Snowy clue... can't quite think of it.

I am not super Angry-Birds-literate, but I think they expose pigs by knocking into the pieces of wood that are sheltering the pigs...
and then destroy them.
