a sergeant who is friendly with me was named as my captain, so i now have the 9th off. yeah. I shall dress up and attend my first opening. and then likely be crushed by the critics. it was nice while it lasted.

Okay, the 9th was saturday; how'd it go? We wanna know!

waiting for the pics. and we did take them.

well we get there a bit past 7pm (traffic) and it is already packed. we run into someone we know and then enter. and in the lobby, right at the front is our art work! so everyone sees it as soon as they come in. we wander and when I see all the other work my heart drops. I start thinking that no way is my work even approaching the other stuff. so we get a beer outside and we run into Hunter Roth...

and he spends the nest twenty minutes telling me and julie about his art, and the inspiration for his art. I'm mighty impressed that he is down to earth enough to tell us so much. and then he asks what work we did, I am embaressed as Julie tells him, expecting a polite brush-off. and then... Hunter breaks into a grin and says "that's yours? wow, I love it, every time I walk by I get something else from it. it has such depth."
Julie can describe my reaction better, but I was dumbfounded. a bit dazed I walk for a bit and see people looking at my piece, as Julie explains some of the stuff. she keeps getting good reaction. the curator (Tom, the guy in the band, the Floaters) and I end up talking. I explain that I was down when I first got there and tell him what Hunter said. Tom tells me that Hunter teaches art at LSU and doen't bullshit. if he likes something, and if he says something he means it.
so in summary, the show went great. we are up until the begining of next month. we have a great, prominent spot. Hunter Roth liked our work. lots of people liked our work. and I remain mostly stunned by the whole thing. we googled the art show and found all of these artists that listed the show on their blogs. I had no idea of the scope. I was just happy that it would be hanging somewhere. but I was unaware that it is important to be shown anywhere, and that this really is something. I will have Julie post so you don't think I'm just trumpeting myself.
