I've been thinking that the destruction of soul will play a significant part in the Last Chronicles. After all, we know that death in the Land isn't all that final, especially now that the Law of Life has been broken. I would guess that Thomas Covenant will end up completely obliterated in exchange of solving the Lord Foul problem, but we'll never know... It probably won't a direct copy of the Honninscrave episode, though.

We know that souls aren't indestructible in the Land universe. The soul stuff itself may not be vanishable, but souls themselves can be rent into pieces and even incorporated into other souls. Sandgorgons are the creatures most famous for being able to do this, but they are not the only ones. A throwaway line by Lord Foul in TPTP reveals that he can rend souls and scatter the remnants. And when dukkha screamed like its soul was being torn in half as it died, its soul probably DID get torn in half by the opposing forces.

I really like the poem, by the way.

WGW ending not happy??? Lord Foul was diminished, a new staff of law was formed, and Linden healed the land. The sunbane was ABOLISHED. lol

That's not happy?
Spoiler
And the main character died. :?
Not in the sense that his presence was removed, at least not by the premise of the final series. I'll always consider the end of WGW to be happy as good overcame evil and the land was preserved, regardless of the circumstances.

I think that, IMHO, the ultimate hero/herione in this "land" series is the land itself. The "final dark" still means to me the "end of dark." The end of darkness...the end of Lord Foul. The minor happinesses (aka Linden finding her son, returning to the "real world", Joan being "cured", etc.) are minor, and may not even happen; but, the land will endure and strengthen itself.

Just throwing something out there...perhaps the Final Dark is a final threshold of some sort...the final wave of evil...like a final tribulation.
