Why Do You Bother?--A Watch Poem by Lyr

See, see the intelligent sky
Marvel at its big puce depths.
Tell me, Covenant do you
Wonder why the aardvark ignores you?
Why its foobly stare
makes you feel bleary.
I can tell you, it is
Worried by your snarflegurrous facial growth
That looks like
A cheese.
What's more, it knows
Your bastinado potting shed
Smells of toad.
Everything under the big intelligent sky
Asks why, why do you even bother?
Your only charm vomits.

Star-crossed

In the shadow of a
somber moon,
amidst
the rush and
crash of stars
our empyreal
spirits collide
over the
tides of time:
star-crossed.


Our grand
illusions
collapse
beneath their
own weight;
pulse imperfectly
and succumb to the
singularity.

All dreams
slip into the
vortex, past the
event horizon
relentlessly.

In the desolate silence
of the boreal wind
echoes are ripples
of light

Like Lot

I recall your last kiss—
A chaste grazing of lips
Seemingly without portent.
You straighten, your face
Set in some inscrutable intent,
And stride to the gate
Like Lot
Never looking back.

My friend and I challenge each other to write poetry on a regular basis. For this particular challenge, I was to tell a story in 12 words.


Arithmetic
Four years longing
two blistering kisses
nine destroying words
I cannot forget

I suppose it is like a drug for me.
houses and rooms full of perfumes
I believe I am returning there for good
So I am glad of that.
I breathe the fragrance myself.

I'm making an effort
rustling in the new breeze
because my tendency is to curl up and forget the
world outside.

I never saw the sea
and that is not healthy.
I have to apologize
then there’s just a pair of us
afraid I have
lost you forever.

Lyr, I really like these. (Ok, I didn't quite get "Why Do You Bother?" - sorry). But the rest are really good.

I think the second, shorter version of "Like Lot" is better than the first. The shortening makes it more dramatic.

And speaking of dramatic: "No Panacea" Wow. Brutal. But very, very good.
