I've just wated the better part of 90 minutes watching clips on YouTube.
What a great, funny show.
Hands down the funniest episode...The infamous "Phone Cops" 2-parter.

Is that the one where Johnny refuses to go back to the office to get something until Venus reminds him that the cops will be checking every inch of the building including Johnny's desk drawer? To wit johnn hurries off to retrieve something? Ha!

How about the episode where cocaine was being smuggled in the album sleeves?
Mr. Carlson thought it was foot powder and exclaimes (After he found what the powder really was):
"My feet are going numb! I can't feel my feet!"
And yes, I thought that Bailey WAS hotter than Jennifer.
(Bailey reminded me of Mrs. Kotter, who I thought was pretty cute too)

Loved it!
OK, I will support these claims:
Yes! Bailey was very hot!

How about the bathroom brawl between the WPIG pig, and the WKRP Carp?
AND who could forget the jingle for "Red Wrigglers"?
AND recall the opening scene where the normally mush-mouthed and Malapropism-prone Les Nessman gets through an entire page of difficult copy, then finished by saying "We'll be back after then 'Mief Bressages'". A classic.

Or the time when there was a tornado and the only emergency plan was for a Communist invasion, so Les changes the word "Communist" to "tornado" and warns the entire area to be on the lookout for the Godless Tornados.

I really do think that WKRP was the funniest sitcom of all time. I'd put it above MASH and I Love Lucy any day of the week.

MASH got preachy. Some other funny ones (all time) in no particular order:
1) SOAP
2) TAXI
3) Bob Newhart Show
4) Seinfeld
5) Odd Couple

I loved Soap, but it didn't age well. I remember Nick did a marathon 12 or 13 years ago and it just didn't stand up well.
Taxi was good, but I think Andy Kaufman ruined the show.
No argument about Newhart....Really funny show.
Seinfeld (to me) was moderatly funny when it was on but doesn't stand up to repeated viewings.
The Odd Couple had it's moments, but I wouldn't include it in this company.

Odd couple was a bit tame. I just have a weak spot for Klugman & Randall. of the 5, BN was the best...I love watching those old shows occassionally.

FWIW, the 1st season will be on DVD as of April 24. No word on whether the original music will be intact. I won't buy it unless it is.

Cail, I don't know the details myself, but according to Paul music copyright does not automatically renew after 28 years. Is the first season 28 or more years ago?

imdb.com says 1978. Which makes 2007 the 29th year?

Interesting. I didn't think that copyright laws expired here so soon (I know it's much quicker in the UK).

According to Paul (again, I have not researched myself), copyright can be renewed if requested. But if not requested, a song can then enter the public domain after 28 years.

Well, the DVD set will be out on the 24th, and I won't be buying it.
I've heard that the transfers are beautiful and the commentaries are excellent, but all the old music is gone, and the shows are the 22-minute syndication cuts rather than the original cuts.
Pathetic.

Some clown must have held the rights to the complete episodes up. Bastards!
