Yes, Coercri was indeed very powerful. It's a moment that takes everything that has gone before to fully grasp its impact. I like the point mikojb made about it being a resolution of previously unresolved issues. I don't look at it as an afterthought, but instead as a masterstroke of writing. To take what you've done and raise the stakes, increase the emotional impact . . . it's just genius.

In reading "Lord Mhoram's Victory", it hit me that the music from "The Empire Strikes Back" - "Rebels at Bay" was a perfect mesh with the scene. The cues for the desperate retreat to Revelstone, Mhoram's confrontation, the krill and so on are perfect.

It's the chapter where Borillar dies. You can fit all the adventures of Borillar on one page, yet his death still touched me.

The second favorite for me- "Lord Mhoram's Victory; he goes on and gives it his all no matter WHAT it looks like. This WOULD have been my FAVORITE chapter as Mhoram shows himself to be the best chacter in the book( slightly, slightly-mabey not even- edging out Foamfollower) but I read the First Chronicles fairly soon after they came out and there was no Second (or even a thought there would be) for quite a while and the anticipation and DESIRE for a climax(conclusion/resolution) that SRD had managed to build up(in me at least) ws SO STRONG and answered so wonderfully and effectively in Covenant's final battle with Foul I was COMPLETLY blown away! When he first entered Foul's thronehall I thought, "OH WOW! HERE IT COMES!!'' And the exchange between them nearly did me in with anticipation but when he hit his ring on the Illearth Stone- (he can't see at this point), ''Like a dead man coming(forcing?) his way out a cocoon, he forced himself to his feet,"(He could feel Foul crashing towards/on top of him),''he took three tottering steps foward and fell, fists first, on the Illearth Stone" I was like, ''HUUUUUUUUUH!!!!!!" and the white EXPLOSION when contact was made and Covenant ''waking'' up on the floor of Foul's throneroom with a white gail/tornado gyrating up from his ring! I thought,'' AT LAST! AT LAST! THE RING WORKS! THE MOST POWERFUL THING IN THE LAND! NO MORE IMPOTENCE! NO MORE INEFFECTIVENESS! NO MORE HELPNESSNESS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO ANYTHING ABOUT /AGAINST ALL THE EVIL LORD FOUL DID/WAS DOING AND AFTER BEING SO FED UP WITH HIM! - and not just Covenant-me too. The battle they then fought was the highlight of my epic fantasy reading career- it has yet to be topped. TDO
