Dear Lord that's horrific. I would officially launch a major protest if that were the cover.

I'm with Wadds on this one! The art is interesting and has a neat visual texture.

Let me rephrase that....

Dear Lord that's a horrific choice for FR! I would officially launch a protest if that were the art work for FR!

I can see it as Lord Foul's lair or something...

Perhaps the subject matter is a tad off-putting to some (though i like it)...butthe style of this artist should bring some interesting imagery to the fore!

Having actually read FR, I can say that nothing about that particular piece is fitting to the book.....

I was just trying to make a point that the particular art piece we are discussing is NOT fitting to FR....didn't mean to be obnoxious. Sorry dlb...

Don't get me wrong guys...I like the art but I wouldn't like to see anything like that on the cover of Fatal Revenant.

Terrible Choice

I cannot believe this. When I read this bit of news this morning I almost screamed outloud. And I am a quiet man, by nature. This is a farce. The publisher has made an extremely grievous wrong doing in chosing John Jude P. for this. He is not the right artist to depict the Land. He is not the right artist, period, for depicting anything real or true set in the Land.

I've been a fan of John Jude P. for many years, but he is not the right person for this honor. He just isn't. From all of his work I have seen, he can't depict natural scenes. He can't use color. Color is the epitome of the Land, really, and therefore we are going to get a crap cover. Ridiculous. It's just sad that the editors and art department does not know this. How unprofessional.

Stephen, of course, has no say in this. I'm sure Michael Whelan was offered the job and turned it down after the debacle last book. He wasn't given any time to read the book and get the artwork down. The publisher rushed him and it pissed him off. Hell, it pissed me off because the US cover of Runes is terrible compare to Michael's other work. I can see why he turned Fatal Revenant down, if he was even offered the job that is. Who knows? Publishers sometimes have difficult choices to make, but they are rarely informed ones.

Petitioning will do nothing unless you petition the publisher. And even now it might be too late. John Jude P. can read the book, and it still would be a crap cover. Do you guys not see that? Just look at the art, then think of the Land -- do those visions match? Nope. Petition the publisher and get at the root of the problem.

Another thing I am worried about is that this announcement indicates that the overall style and design of the hardcover will be different.

It would stink if Fatal Revenant didn't match Runes enough that, by the end of the series, I didn't have a handsome set. Different size books, different design styles ... <cringe>.

an interesting point that a part of me agrees with. However, taking it in stride, I think this artist is not a bad choice.
I am one of those that don't actually want a scene from the book depicted. i would prefer something less obvious, more visceral --- something taht you see on the cover that just gives you a 'feel' for what is inside. This is why i usually prefer the UK covers for the books.

That's why my fave cover was the LFB cover whith the Ranyhyn on it.

You know this is really much ado about nothing. The book is what counts. There could be a picture of Cail taking a shower on the front and I'd be just as happy.

Not really of course, but TRY getting that image out of your head!

If I was on the cover in the shower, you'd have to have a fold-out.
