Yes, pickled herring is usually served on a smorgasbord as one in maybe four or five dishes, so one would expect small portions. In the Danish/Swedish lunch style one would normally order three or four dishes (often two fishy and two with meat/cold cuts).

Sardines in tins are i assume the same both sides of the Atlantic - but I've never been a fan (well, never tried them since I ws about 10yo!) so I don't know what they'd be like in mustard - sorry!
It's not many days that you can say you've tried something you've wanted to try for months, is it? A lunch well eaten, a day with an outcome!
