I knew a guy who used to say that if he ever became a radio newscaster, he'd use the on-air name Rip Reed (as in "rip and read").

Well, it was funny at the time! :-x

The "New York Times Best-Selling Book" thing? It's already been done, kinda: "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius" by Dave Eggers. (It *was* a pretty good book, tho I'm not sure it quite lived up to its title...)

I'm with Luci. I'd use my real name, and for the same reason.

I'd publish with an ancient writers name. Something one worded. Like Plato. Or Shakespeare. Or Both of them combined.

Shakespeare Plato.

There's supposed to be a formula to come up with it, isn't there? The name of your first pet, and the name of the street where you lived...

I would be Rex 16.

 Whoops, that's the formula for porn star name. It's a good one, though.

I know we're not supposed to put serious responses here, but...

"Mara Mierlinde" or "Mara Gettinger"

(No, neither of them are intended to sound like anything.)

Or maybe I'd go for a first name that's totally DND-style made-up. (I say, this, but I wouldn't.) In RPG's, I've lately been liking the names "Wistrene" or "Wierza."

I'd use something constructed out of my family names, like Isabel Knighton. I have another one in mind, but I'm saving it in case I need it. :D
