No worries, I just wanted to make sure it was still ongoing, and that it hadn't just stopped at some point.

Thanks Vain. :D

I just had an idea, which made me look for this thread. :D

As y'all may or may not know, the search rebuild is stopped indefinitely. It's something like 90% complete, but it won't go any further. Database might be too big, I dunno.

So the search function works sorta. But it just can't handle everything.

Now also, as you also may know, the Watch indexes very quickly. Major search engines crawl us on practically a daily basis.

So if you're searching for something on the forum, and you get a zero result, but you're sure it's there, you can do a site-specific Google search of the Watch, and you might get better results.

Just go to Google and enter

Code: Select all

site:http://kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/
followed by a space, and the search terms you're looking for.

I can't think of a way you could filter it except by having a multiple word search term, so you'll get everything from profiles to posts with that word (or those words) in the signature, but you'll have something.

Anyway, just a thought for anybody who still struggles with the search function.

My main complaint with search is when I do "show all posts by <Watcher>" via their profile, I only get like 7500 posts back, if it is a Watcher with more than that many. Sometimes I might want to do a quick search for their most recent post and when this happens I definitely don't see the more recent ones.

Is there a way to find someone's most recent post, if I don't have an inkling of when they last posted?

I know the "show all posts by" only doesn't work when there are more than some big number. 10,000 or something like that. For less verbose users, it usually works.

You can also use Search, leave the keywords blank, fill in the Search For Author, and check Display results as Posts.

But you get the same result when the author has too many posts.

Show all posts should work for showing the most recent ones. It starts at the latest and shows them in descending order. It just won't show more than 7,500 for people with over 10k or so.

Using the link from your profile, Av, the first post is from 2006. ;)

As Murrin said...

The first post that shows up is from 2006, but since the search pages list from most recent post to oldest, the last one showing is your introductory post at the bottom of page 375...

Oh bugger. Well, then no, there's no way.

You can try limiting your query to a single forum, that might help.
