Yaaaay! Congrats, Murrin!

A "third" -- is that a good thing? (The clueless Yank here wants to know (the "clueless Yank" being me, of course).)

Glad I'm not the only one, aliantha. Murrin attempted to explain it to me, but I'm still clueless.

I'm happy with "good thing" or "bad thing" -- I don't need to know the intricacies.

Good enough.

Honours degrees come in different classes based on how well you did. There are three classes, but the Second class is split into two parts, so what you can get is a 1st, 2:1, 2:2, or 3rd; a First being the best class of degree and needing a mark of above 70% (approx). I got a Third, meaning I had an overall mark of between 40-50% for my course.

It's the piece of paper, not the score, that counts. Trust me...nobody ever asked me how well I did in my degree...only that I have it. :D

(Ok, it's an Arts degree, but never mind that. ;) )

Interesting! We sorta kinda have that here. You got your regular degree; then your "cum laude", your "summa cum laude", and your "magna cum laude". Us pretentions Americans have to put it in Latin, don't'cha know.

I got the regular kind. I think the others matter mostly for bragging rights -- or if you're trying to get into law school at Harvard or Yale.
