I timed myself tonight and realized that I am a freak. I am not posting the results because I want to test them several times with different literature and make my friends test me. But seriously, I think I am a freak. 8O

I read extremely fast. took speed reading in high school twice. i already read fast before that. retention is still good. i skip over a lot of uneeded descriptive lines.

When I'm in a good grassy park with just a LITTLE sun, I can ussually get about 50 to an hour. Usually around 35-40. Retentions good too. Unless I'm reading something for the first time, then I just devour it. I'm just going to re-read it in a day anyway!

:shifty: Uh yeah, last time I checked, I averaged about 120 pages an hour, if uninterrupted. Back before I worked, a couple of books a day was no problem for me.

8O Wow, Av, that's AMAZING!

I've always wished I could read faster. When I was doing my degree and assigned over 200 pages worth of articles to read for most subjects (so that was about 800 pages a week...and that was just the stuff you *had* to read) I struggled!

Theres a part of me that doesn't mind that I read so slow. I feel like I'm savoring what I'm reading. I only wish I retained more of what I read! I dunno. I had bacterial meningitis when I was 20. I reckon it stuffed up my brain! That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!! :P

To be honest, it's always seemed perfectly natural to me...no big deal. Came in handy studying though, I must agree. I'd just read my textbook twice the night before an exam. :D

(Oh, and I had meningoencephalitis (a combination of meningitis and encephalitis) twice in my childhood. I also reckon it stuffed up my brain. ;) )

I had viral meningitis when I was twenty-one, and it stuffed up my brain as well :biggrin:

No, you can't, Phantasm. I've *never* had meningitis. :lol:

I used to read about 60 pages an hour, but that was Before Kids. I think I've slowed down due to the distraction factor....

As for annoying the crap out of loved ones: When the girls accuse me of being deaf, my standard response is, "What?" (That's as in "What did you just say?", not as in "WHAT??!!?!?")
