Looking at Syl's list, there are a bunch of other films I consider to be in my favorites.

And again, this is why making lists like this is so futile. I've seen so many movies that I can't possibly condense them into a top 10.

Usivius, you're the first person I've ever encountered who loves "Eyes wide shut."

I loved "Eyes Wide Shut". It's a favorite of mine. Probably not Top Ten material but very good IMHO.

Thirded. What was good about it?

Never saw Congo - but I read the book! Shocking but true. (It's usually the reverse for me: I've seen the movie but didn't read the book.) My favorite adaptations of Michael Chricton's books are Jurassic Park and The Andromeda Strain.

Oh, and I really enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut as well, but then I like almost all of Kubrick's films.

Film buffs at the first decade of the last century must've had a much easier time picking their favorites. Wonder how many movies in total had been made by then.

I noticed Waking Life on Syl's list. Marvelous movie! I finally saw it on DVD only a few months ago.

I guess putting down just our all-time top 10 is a bit boring. It's more interesting to see the variations here, or the choices beyond the top ten.

The Top 10 was easy...this was hard.

See, the rub is this. Tapeheads is one of my favorite movies. It is by no means great, and most people who see it simply don't get it. I love it, and I can watch it over and over again. But if I'm compiling a top 10 list (or even a top 20 list), I'll never list it, because it simply doesn't compare to movies like Aliens, Die Hard, Heat, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers ('77), and the rest of the stuff I listed. Big Trouble in Little China is the same way. Love the movie, but it's hardly a high-quality film.

The same applies to Congo. I can't tell you how many times we've watched it (the same goes for the rest of my list), and to me, that's the bench mark for belonging on the list.

Congo gets a bad rap. I can't help that, because the reasons we like it have more to do with the actors/characters, and less to do with plot holes and actors in gorilla suits. Laura Linney and Ernie Hudson are great in this, and Delroy Lindo steals his scenes. I could go on, but--

Sure, I've enjoyed indies and classics from other lists, but many of those I don't watch again. Besides, the list (which could easily reach 50) is for ME.

I've just never heard of anyone enjoying Congo.

To each their own.

Congo was my favorite film, but then I remembered that it had bad acting, bad cinematography, a screen-play written by a twelve-year-old, bad animatronics, and a tie-in deal with Taco Bell (or maybe it was Burger King). On top of that, the film gave me cancer.

Well, at least you enjoyed it.

Just because a film is your favorite doesn't mean it has to be deep meaningful and oscar winning....
