So in some ways, I think the ring is supposed to be hard to use.

Near the end of Runes, Linden discovers that it was Kevin's Dirt, blocking her percipience, which made it hard for her to use the ring. So that's not going to be an issue going forward.

Conflicts between Staff and ring will be.
I would agree that Linden didn't seem to have any conflicts using the two together at the end of the 2nd Chrons...

...I guess we'll have to see what SRD comes up with to make this viable.

Lacking either lore or passion, white wild magic is impossible to evince from the gold. Passion is the most immediately available catalyst, but the magic which results is a reflection of those passions, wild and unruly. Lore, on the other hand, gives a person of great knowledge, such as an Insequent, a degree of control over the magic, enabling him to bend and shape it to his will. And since wild magic is antagonistic to Earthpower, it can readily be wielded against the Elohim as avatars of Earthpower.

I think his love for Elena was the key there.

I always assumed that Linden would become the actual WGW, while the title of the sixth book was an enticement to the final TC/Foul duel.
