Well, though I see your point, I also see another. Liand expended a great deal of himself in summoning the rain, and only succeeded in the end with Linden's help. I don't see this rain bit as being a lasting solution to these beasts.

It's not a good solution mainly because they're underground creatures. So what if they're driven back by Linden's rain. In a year or two they'll finish eating up the foundations of the earth. The fact that you can shoo them away from the surface just makes their hidden underground exploits more thorough.

Do we have any idea how they came about in the first place? They're not one of Lord Foul's hidden banes right?

If they would eat up the foundation of the earth, which they can no doubt do, then Kasty would have directed them to do so already. However, he's witholding them for some reason or other, directing them to do whatever his particular bidding is. That relationship is fascinating.

True, but he was Appointed to stop them from doing that... so they've only had a relatively short length of time.

Ah the skurj, another reason why the Land is doomed. Kastenessen, who mainly wants to burn the Elohim out of existence, was probably testing Linden to see how strong she was. In the end though, all he has to do is have some skurj kill and eat each other, and than we have a massive horde of skurj that can not possibly be killed off before they regenerate their numbers.

The skurj, though individually are not as big a deal, are a huge threat when they are in groups, specifically big army groups.

Also, is anyone else noticing a "Conquerer Worm" them in the Chronicles?
