SNape is my favorite bar none. He is complex, far more honorable than Harry that Git realizes, and he has compelling reasons for dispising Harry's Pop, Sirius, Lupin, and the rest (who were the Hogewarts jocks, so to speak)... they got away with murder at Snape's expense.

Yes, I like Snape (as a character) more as time goes on. In the first couple of books, he was just plain evil/vicious. Upon discovering why he hated Bob Potter (sorry, his real name has eluded me for the moment) so much, a little humanity began to creep in. By the end of Goblet, it was clear that Snape isn't so much evil as embittered. As Gunslinger says, he fell foul of Bob Potter and friends' self-absorbed hijinx - also, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little resentful (and quite possibly angry at/in conflict with himself) that he has this permanent stain of association with Voldemort. Despite all Dumbledore's assertions to the contrary, I was never really convinced of Snape's reformed ways until he didn't show up with the rest of the Death Eaters in the finale of Goblet - the fact that he was willing to actually defy Voldemort's expectations of him did more to redeem him in my eyes than anything else I've read of him so far.

James Potter. Lilly and James.

There is more about Snape's honor which is implied. Dumbledore alomost once every book goes on about how he trusts Snape over almost all others. It will be interesting to eventually hear the tale of why this is so.

I always took it to be because Snape has been to the "dark side" and very deliberately renounced it. Where others could be tempted and whatnot, Snape has already been there and doesn fancy going back.

(Ah, James, of course. I prefer Bob though :P )

Yes, embittered. Poor Snape, such an unhappy childhood. Wasn't there also a memory of his parents fighting?
I still want to know why Dumbledore has so much trust in him.

Dumbledore clearly knows something we don't. No doubt it will come to light in due course. Should be interesting.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment  :D
