This deserves to be iconic, because it is a dream accompaniment to any spicy curry....

...although it can be a pain picking the peppercorns and cloves out of your teeth.

About the only way I can eat mangoes is in chutney, or added to my sweet salad with craisins.

I grew up with neighbors having rotting mangoes falling from their trees, as they are so prolific. Between the smell, and my skin allergy to handling fresh mango unless I wear plastic gloves, I tend to avoid them.

Not that I would ever use it, but in 99.9% of all German households you'll find this:

Maggi feine Speisewürze (liquid seasoning). There are people who wouldn't eat soup without a few dashes of it. Tastes like lovage.

Brandt Zwieback. There isn't a kid that didn't have to eat this while having stomach flu. And surprisingly, it's the only thing you can keep inside when not feeling well.

We have stuff here called zwieback. It's usually given to teething babies. Makes one heckuva mess.
