I've not heard of that videogame. Is it any fun? What console is it on? Or is it on the PC?

Yeah. Just unplug the computer.
Probably safest.

I had some freeware net-nanny-type program when the kids were younger -- Prowler, I think it was called. They complained about it, which I took to mean that it was doing its job. :) Then Batty got her own laptop when she was in 9th grade. I didn't put any sort of nanny program on it. Didn't even think about it. BIG mistake. Pretty soon she was reading yaoi fanfiction, and it went downhill from there...
Wait, wait.

Teenage girls reading yaoi fanficcies?

I'm sorry, I don't see the problem...

Pretty much. Yaoi is exclusively male-male though, and is technically a genre of manga/anime, so really it should be visual rather than written.

It amuses me greatly that Batsutousai is into yaoi. I may have to mock her on sight. Where is she?

I wouldn't directly compare Yaoi to Slash.

At home, presently. I'll let her know to check in.... (And she will mock me in her turn, so it all works out.)

Is hentai girl/girl, then? I only know a few words of Japanese....

Hentai is any pornographic anime/manga.

Um.. not that I would know anything about that, of course. :shifty:

Bah. I'm taking care of annoying orphan children and you all want my thoughts on yaoi or something?

YURI is girl/girl. YAOI is guy/guy. HENTAI is any form of porn. Het included.
SHONEN-AI is a lighter, safer form of yaoi. So, not hentai. SHOJOU-AI is the lighter form of girl/girl.
SLASH is the word commonly used among the fandoms that aren't anime/manga/Japanese culture related. FEMSLASH is the girl/girl version of that.

Mock away, CovenantJr. I'm a proud yaoi fangirl. (Then again, if the girls in any of these series were worth pairing with the guys.... :XD)

On a somewhat related and rather amusing side-note: You won't find 'yaoi' or 'yuri' in a Japanese dictionary. They're slang terms and there's an occasionally amusing debate over where each word really came from.

Personally, I don't know how I'd react to finding out that a teenage girl doesn't read Yaoi. I've never met a 'normal' person before.

Yaoi's supposed to be an acronym, I think, but I can't remember what it stands for.

In Japan, you'd practically never here it called Yaoi -- not sure about whether Yuri is used. The term my esteem Nihon-jin brothers use would be Boy Love or Boy's Love, or something like that. I don't think they'd actually use Shonen-Ai. I think that's mainly a western thing. Just like the abuse of the copula.

What we consider 'hard core' porn would be roughly analagous to henai. Softcore would be ecchi.

Dammit. Now I have to go see if I can get in touch with any of my old FFXI friends.

As I understand it, hentai isn't really called hentai in Japan either. Or rather, the term hentai isn't really applied to the stuff we call hentai.

You may laugh, but at least I'm not a yaoi fan. Though I did have a disturbing conversation with the Bangor Anime Society recently, who accused me and an acquaintance called Dan of being good yaoi material. 8O Most frightening of all, Dan seemed quite taken with the idea. 8O

Hentai literally means 'pervert' or 'perverted,' I think. It's been a while since I studied Japanese, but I'm fairly sure that you'd be more likely to call someone hentai than to call porn hentai. The Otaku culture has really messed up learning Japanese (of course, anyone who wants to call themself a pedophile as a badge of honour doesn't really have a good grasp of a language...)

Yeah, that's what I was getting at; I was just too lazy to try and explain it. :P I appreciate your efforts, Emo Boy. :P
