YAY!

YAY! Great news.

For those interested: I'm flying in on Friday the 13th of June and flying out on the 27th. Both flights leave from San Francisco. I have purchased my ticket so there's no backing out now!!! ;)

Luci and I still have to chat about what exactly we're going to do but tentative plans are to spend a day or two or three (???!!!) in SF and then fly to DC and head back west. Once I get my head on straight (which may not necessarily *ever* happen) and get over all this house moving I've been doing, we'll start working out a route.

People have been talking about an Albuquerque Elohimfest but, unfortunately, I think if we do make it there it will be a flying visit (I wish I'd been able to come over for 3 weeks. It would have made things so much easier!!).

Yes!

Drive, either there or back through Chicago, Sea!

ok here's how we did it.

we left in the morning of the first day, drove straight through to denver in about 24 to 30 hours (can't remember). Ger did most of the driving.
all i really remember about the first leg of the journey was that i had to drive through freakin Kansas City in the evening and those people are CRAZY on the roads. they take those spiral interchanges at freakin 80 miles an hour!! 8O scared the bejesus outa me.

we got to denver around 8 or 9 am the next day. walked around for a while cause our room wasn't ready till nearly noon.
when we turned on the tv in our room Saddam was invading Kuwait.

we slept in denver for about eight hours or so then got back on the road.

drove for another 24 hours or so, including a stop at Bonneville Salt Flats that evening and before daybreak we snoozed at a rest stop for an hour or two in nevada i think.

got into san francisco around 10 a.m. and drove straight in over the Bay Bridge, into downtown and up Grant to the Chinatown Gate! 8)

we didn't pee in bottles and we stopped whenever we got hungry.

so...we left on August 2nd and got into SF on August 4th i believe.

we rented a studio apartment on August 6th and have been here ever since.

Um...you seen how big Australia is??? ;)

As for Chicago...we haven't actually worked out a route yet (and I'm geographically challenged when it comes to most places in the US so....). Once we know where we're going we'll let ya all know. :) The only confirmed destinations so far is SF and DC.

Whoo hoo! See you guys in June! :nanaparty:

Let me know your ETA in DC when you know it. I'd be happy to take a day (or two!) off work and play chauffeur.

BTW, you could avoid all the driving by taking Amtrak back to the West Coast. That would take you through both Chicago and Denver. Not sure how close it would get you to SF on the other end. Takes 3 nights/4 days if you go straight through. You could also break the trip in Denver, rent a car, and drive to ABQ. Just a thought. If the drive is part and parcel of, y'know, the experience, feel free to ignore me. :)

Lexington to SF in two days *is* a bit much, even for me. 8O And I am the Road-Trip Queen. We did 4 nights on the road from Denver to DC via Albuquerque, but that was with just one driver (me), two kids and two cats.

The California Zephyr's route is from Chicago to across the bay from San Francisco. I looked into it for traveling last year out to S.F.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I was thinking perhaps a bit of rail to break up things but didn't know what was available. :)

Notified the family of the trip today. I think I have them almost fully convinced you're not all serial murderers.
