Ironically, I own a Wii because of my PC. I wanted something radically different from FPS/strategy games and mouse/keyboard controls. The 360 is basically a little PC, many of its top games being shooters. The Wii offers completely different interaction, as well as the console-style games I grew up with.

I consider myself a casual gamer, PC or console. I may help stimulate the US economy later this year and use the (ridiculous!) tax rebate check to get a new console (we have a PS2 right now).
Right now, the only one in the running is the Wii - my wife is interested in it, and I foresee a long and mostly uphill battle in negotiating for a PS3, unless a really cool game (as judged by her - who is meh for most games, but ADORES Justice League Heroes) comes out exclusively for the PS3.

Okay, this is the second time I've heard of a tax rebate check today. Did something happen and I wasn't looking?

It isn't a done-deal yet, but this is election year, and our esteemed officials would sooner shoot themselves in the head than go on record now as wanting to keep cash out of the hands of the voting public - no matter how empty that gesture eventually proves to be.

Dumb.

Sorry for the hijack.

Oh, and just found thread in the tank. Shouldn't checked there first before letting my fingers do the typing.

I'm just a casual gamer these days as well, but might return to semi-serious gaming if I can get my new system to run smoothly. I know, instead of PC upgrades, I could've used the money to buy a console, but I hadn't put together a new PC in years, so it was time. However, it would still be nice to get a new console at some point. Nav mentioned Forza and Project Gotham Racing for the Xbox: those titles might sway me towards that system, though I'm not familiar with them. But Nintendo has Mario Kart, which I adore. I love a good racing game as much as a good FPS, perhaps even more so. :)

I haven't actually played PGR4, but it's widely regarded as the best racing game on the 360 and it looks gorgeous. I've got Forza 2 though and I really like it, it's got all the things in it you always wanted Gran Turismo to have: crash damage, Ferrari, Lambourghini, Porsche etc. Plus the car painting options are endless, people come up with some incredibly complex creations from layered decals and then sell them on the in-game auction house: Batman car

The only thing I don't like is the online play: they haven't found a way to make it fun in this kind of game. You join a race and everybody has the same untouchable car except you and they've all got a perfect tuning setup for the track. It would be a lot of fun with a group of sensible friends over Xbox Live though, in fact my gaming group runs tournaments from time to time: MatureGaming UK

From what I have seen of Gran Turismo 5 it looks great. The review of PGR4 was alright but they said that it was a bit disapointing. I Love the other Gran Turismo games.

I have a 360 and play it much more often than my PC. I used to be a PC geek, but then I got married and had kids and well...life happens and upgrading PC's is at the very bottom of my list to spend things frivolously on, if I had the money to. Hence, the 360.

I love it. I haven't had any problems with it. It's true the first generation 360's had problems, but the second and after generations have had little to no problems. For the record, I bought a second generation 360.

As far as the 360 vs. PS3 goes, I'd say go with the 360 because why play games later when you can play them now? Also, Xbox Live is just awesome. You can get a peripheral to play HD movies on your 360. Though if you want to go Blu-Ray you'll have to go with the PS3 until the HD vs. Blu-Ray battle dies out, if it does.

Just my opinion. Though it seems to me you've already made up your mind. :)

You are right, I did. Anyway, I would rather have games later. The Xbox appears to be sending out all their great games now while the PS3. Potential the PS3 seems to have betters games later while the Xbox has nothing really great lined-up. Blu-Ray is also better than the normal HD stuff, better picture.

Anyway, I got a PS3 and so far I am happy... backwards thing is gone which is annoying other than that.
