I'm rereading ROTE for the first time after FR and Esmer doesn't seem to be blocking Linden intentionally. Rather, Linden's use of the white gold requires her to find it within herself (Donaldson repeatedly uses the imagery of finding and opening the doorway to it).
When SRD describes Linden's reactions to Esmer, the sickness she feels gets worse when he hasn't expended his contradiction lately - right after he beat up Stave Linden was able to talk to Esmer without much difficulty because his contradiction had been eased for a while, but as the conversation went on the sick feeling came back to her.
Esmer blocks Linden's white gold as a side effect of her Health Sense's perception of his conflict. The krill won't help because the issue isn't around the white gold, its about her ability to tap into it consciously while her senses are being overwhelmed.

So basically if Esmer's around and Linden needs to wield white magic, she could just tell him to go beat up Stave, the Humbled, or (better) Handir... and then she could wield away.
BTW, a battle I'd like to see: Esmer vs. Brinn/Theo/Elohim

But, to make it a true LC battle - based on what we have seen so far - it would also have to involve croyel, giants, Viles, Demondim, ur-Viles, Waynhim, miscellaneous Haruchai... with maybe a shot of Forestal just to keep it interesting?

I want a shot of Forestal.
Seriously. I think that they're going to end up finding that the mind of the One Forest is still intact, and create a new Forestal.
I volunteer myself for the position.

Esmer wouldn't last.. Brinn in his guardian role would make a water fountain out of Esmer.

As I said, I'd like to see it
(actually, I think Esmer could hang for a bit before he finally succumbs though)

I think you left out raging Fire-Lions, the Lurker, the flamberge, and the previously un-mentioned "Spirit of Glimmermere."

Seems out of character to the series for anything to trump White Gold.
Seems to me that it's more like performance anxiety than anything else.
Maybe now that Linden has the Krill, the Staff, the Ring and Covenant himself, she can finally get rid of Kevin's Dirt and end this strange affectation that Esmer has over her.

In what way is that a spoiler in the FR forum? Or you have some other sources that we don't

Even with his conflicted nature Esmer still seems more trustworthy than the Harrow, and why doesnt he defend himself during the battle in FR. Perhaps he seeks an end to his conflict by ending himself.

That's how I understand it. IIRC it has something to do w/ his conflicted Elohim/Haruchai nature that messes w/ Linden. Or at least that's what *she* thinks it is.
Rereading this, I wonder if Esmer's conflicted nature could be zeroing in on Linden's conflicted feelings of being the ring weilder.
Also, the fact that he calls her "Wildweilder" must be a clue. Maybe wild signifies that she hasn't tamed the ring.

Hmmm, good point. That's always bothered me.

Am I alone to wonder if we'll ever understand why Esmer decides to grimace in the middle of things? I recall that happening several times.

I took that as a physical reflection of the struggle to contain his good/bad sides.
